i don't see tobacco companies selling them under existing brand names (though camel could take advantage of an exotic eastern vibe for hash, etc) because it would essentially pollute their existing brand equity. more likely they'll be introduced under new new names

-Stoners Against the Prop. 19 Tax Cannabis Initiative
"this blog takes an intelligent approach to evaluating the 2010 tax cannabis initiative proposed for california's november ballot. STONER BEWARE: this initiative is NOT what you think it is. if you are passionate about marijuana and legalization, read this blog and see what the initiative really says. then just vote KNOW."

according to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal…
"As of October 2010[update], even if the proposition is passed, the sale of marijuana will remain illegal under federal law via the Controlled Substances Act"

"not only does the initiative not end the drug war, it apparently taxes the drug to fund the drug war."

i posted this in the Politics thread thread earlier - but it really belongs here:
Democracy is like 2 wolves and 1 sheep deciding what's for dinner, or rather 3,789,423 people deciding that 3,261,373 other people should be criminalized. It fails because it implicitly allows mob (majority) to rule with an iron fist. The United States was established as a Constitutional Repub...lic, and under the laws of the Constitution it would be illegal to crimialize the population for personal consumption of a natural plant. Remember the Constitution was written on Hemp and we have a long positive history with marijuana. So I ask the American majority - Is it marijuana you don't like, or freedom? What gives you the implicit right to criminalize your neighbor?
- that second number may not be correct. Maybe that many have tried it, but don't currently smoke it.capn_ron
- becuz drugs are bad mmmkay—they're a gateway drug to herion and the mexican drug cartels...jaylarson
- that is the results of the Prop19 votebliznutty
- but I think the meaning is completely correct in that quote.capn_ron
- oh i see. I read it wrong. my bad, carry on.capn_ron

man, i don't know how to vote on this.

when it's the mob's well-being at stake it's the mob who should have the say in it, not some other entity with its own imperatives.
with prop 19 it seems like all it's doing is throwing the mob a bone by allowing them to smoke marijuana, BUT ONLY if it's purchased from that entity in power. ...which only makes it more powerful

I personally don't see marijuana becoming overly branded and commercialized. Maybe in a small way but not mass marketed.
- Why not? all drugs are heavily marketed, why would this one not be the same?zarkonite
- because it's like potatoes. name a big brand of potatoes. Do they have tv ads and fancy packages?Dodecahedron
- There would be a huge amount of stigma and regulations to get around too. Not an easy thing, selling it is, marketing not so much.Dodecahedron
- ...marketing not so much.Dodecahedron
- I'd never buy weed in a package with a logo on it. I'd be a douche if I did.Dodecahedron
- why is it like potatoes? you can't smoke potatoes, you can't entertain yourself with a potatoe.. I don't see the similarities.zarkonite
- similarities...zarkonite
- I think he misspelled potatoes, the correct way to spell it was :
