Hi there,
Does anybody know of any design books that focus on high end / luxury / premium / boutique brands?
This is pretty much what my client base is and I need some more inspiration.
Thanks
Sophie

Are you asking for interior design or graphic?

I dont think there is such thing as luxury design. Its the choice the designer makes for the brand's value and character.

Thanks everyone!
I meant graphic design for high end / luxury brands. So for instance a book that is full of boutique hotels, luxury spa's, shops, boutiques etc - bags, tags, logos, brochures etc.

If you concentrate on suggesting luxury through aesthetics - you'll never succeed, because a lot of depth will be missing from the brand image. I think an important factor is longevity. People choose to _invest_ their money in luxury items.
In terms of design, attention to detail indicates careful consideration and quality - but more importantly, brand connotations need to be carefully built up over time.
In which case, a key factor will probably be your choice of association, and the way you develop a strategy for making those associations apparent.

I guess another way to describe what I'm looking for is very CLEAN and quite classic but very stylish graphic design...quite minimal and unfussy.

Think about Hermes. If you didn't know what Hermes was, when you see the illustration, you may not consider them as a luxury brand.
- that kind of dissonance is useful, because it creates exclusivity (those who don't get it / know, are automatically excluded)********

Also there is a difference between fashion based creative (which tends have more nominal look) vs other luxury goods.
Luxury is about lifestyle. Most convey as classic but it can appeal to others who curve differ in the range of how they define luxury.
If the notion of luxury was based on minimalistic ideals, most japanese design would pass as luxury. And it would appear so when you first look at them.
Bases for varying class of luxury also determines the look but not exclusively. Range of the target consumer can be the determiner but not always true as breaking away from the norm of the luxury look can stand out from the rest.

Interesting subject but just help the poor guy instead of bitchin' about the way he asks for help. Afterwards you can start a thread about the definition of luxury...
