Has anybody else bought a Mac using the educational discount?
I am thinking of getting a Macbook Pro through the educational discount for my little brother with the ipod touch promotion they have going until September 7th.
Does anybody know if the educational discount has any offers during the year incase I decide to buy it for him around Christmas time?

I have boughten one before, and they do those types of offers every now and then.
But if you are serious about it, I think waiting would be a bit of a risk.
How old is your brother? Because if you're thinking he would also want CS5, they give big discounts when you're buying a new MAC too.

I can't see them putting the new ipod touches on there so maybe best to just go with what is on offer now, though I'm sure the macbook pros will be updated a bit around November time.
I think he's looking logic pro on it, he's studying music production.
- the current ones will handle logic without too much troubleSamush

they only have it when it's time for school. so no you should get it now.

student discount limits you to one apple laptop and apple desktop per year, but i'm not sure how strict they are on that.
i think the discount on macbook pro's is around 12% this rate doesn't ever change, but the ipod touch offer is only ever during the summer before school/uni starts again. it's the best way to shift macbooks and ipods to students before bringing out new versions.you may also be able to get some cash-back on a printer at the moment, not sure, its usually about £60 and there's usually a printer that price on sale in the store so a free printer isn't bad!
plus, the student discount on AppleCare is crazy, £47 instead of £200, but you only get that price when you buy in store and when you buy the machine, if you buy applecare later on (within the standard 1 year warranty) its about £120. - i made this mistake once, not cool.

the best deal is to buy refurbished online, the student discount always stays the same but if you don't have your heart set on one model, the refurb section has some great deals.

cheers peeps, think I'll go the refurb store route, £260 savings +
What is better though processor wise?
Intel Core 2 Duo or the icore 5would I also be better off going for a SSD harddrive

- so the icore 3,5 and 7 processors are better.mirrorball
- i3 is basically a core2duo, but the i5 and i7 are better.Samush

I'm just about to fork out for a macbook pro using my gf student id. Then, like a plum a googled for rumours of any possible new models coming soon. ut-oh.
Now I'm caught in a mindset of waiting waiting waiting for god knows what god knows when. But it has been two odd years since the unibody design, so I wonder if a new model is round the corner? I'm thinking I should just man up and buy now.

this is standard situation! the only time there won't be rumours is the day after a release, then they'll start again. unfortunately whatever you buy will be outdated after size months, the reality is- is it still fine for your demands?
