@duckseason
Thanks for posting dude. the t2i / 550d has amazing video for its price. Although the video you posted looks like bad quality, think he compressed it too much before upload, but its still very smooth.
This is a nice t2i video -
(you can see its a better quality upload)

I have no experience with this; but, here is something a friend of mine shot with t2i, just so you can see some real world use:

it certainly was RW. 5D MKII. It must be pretty good quality video then eh!

Wasn't an episode of House filmed on the Canon 5D?

well I'd assume most people would be using a tripod and if not you can always get a steady cam for a 100$. Got mine a week ago, it's pretty good.
And when the hacked GH-1 is comparable to red, I'd say that's good enough video for me.
The major advantage to RED is it's flexibility in post. You can grade red to the max, more than motion jpeg produced by 5D MKII 7D and GH-1, but 100mbps from the GH1 is still gonna respond pretty well.

dslrs are really not good for video unless on a tripod. or, if you buy a fuckton of gear to basically convert it to a video camera (red rock micro etc)
- even with a "ton" of gear, they are cheaper than a decent video camera and produce a much better end result.DoTheMacarena

OK, I know there's a million posts about this.
But what is the best camera I can get for filming video with interchangeable lenses???
Is it really the 5D mkii??There is no best, and there will never be, only different or similar specs between cameras. My guess would be, get the brand you currently own more lenses from, so you can use those.
What do you want to shoot? in what environment, what kind of gear you currently own or will be using it with? I'm sure each person has a favorite camera but "give me the best" will only get you different opinions.
- yeh totally dude.
but like, what is the best?Hombre_Lobo - LOLZ! i kid! <3Hombre_Lobo
- hahahahahaMiguex
- the more you know! :D
what cam u got?Hombre_Lobo - I have a t1i and I love it, it's way too much camera for me:
here's a sample: http://vimeo.com/125…Miguex - mate that looks nuts, you and your party lifestyle! that you in red? sweet vid dude!Hombre_Lobo

Hacking the GH-1 is very very easy.
Download the firmware, download the hack program (ptools 3.40), press a few buttons, save the firmware, load it onto the camera and your done :)
Guide here -
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showth…the only hard part is deciding how good you want your GH-1 video quality to be and balancing that with its file sizes.
here is information on what settings you may consider -

- you got one dude??
or just a fan of the hacking! :DHombre_Lobo - Nice!RW

Full frame sensors are very large 35mm sensors, like the 5d MkII.
The 7d has a smaller APS-C Sensor.Generally speaking the larger the sensor the better its contrast and high iso performance, but these days technology is getting better so it is becoming less important. Your best just comparing the cameras in question.
More importantly sensor size effects the focal length of a lens used and its depth of field.
If i use a 20mm lens on a full frame camera its effective focal length (sometimes referred to as 35mm terms) is 20mm.
When using a 20mm lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor its different. APS-C sensor have a crop factor of 1.6. So the effective focal length will be -
20mm x crop factor (1.6) = 32mm effective focal length. What this means in practice is the higher the crop factor of lens the more zoomed your field of vision will be -
In fact this link is great, answers your queries -

Can someone break down the full frame VS non issue for me - in simple terms. What does it mean and what are the implications of either.
Also, how does one go about hacking a GH1; excuse my ignorance.
I want to invest in one of these camera's and learn the ropes; currently use a DVX100B and know it's probably the right time to step up my camera game.

Nikon D3100 looks interesting.... fulltime AF could be cool for some users if it actually works.... but I'm waiting for D90 replacement, as I've got some AF-D lenses....
I've shot quite a bit of staged setup video with 5D mark II, lights, 70-200 2.8 IS, various prime lenses, tripod, etc.. quite nice in low light, and I'm re-learning how to follow focus from the film school days...
NOTE The 5D mark II is NOT a "grab and shoot" camera, it's unforgiving if you're in a hurry and not careful.... compared to XVX200, which you can just stick on your shoulder and shoot....
The whole full-frame or not isn't a gigantic issue for me.... the crop frame cameras are more forgiving of sloppy focussing, but slightly less "ohh-ahh" about the bokeh at F1.4, but I've seen sooooo much F1.4 from the 5D mark II, it's becoming like the ringlight craze of 2003...

The 550d / t2i is great value and very nice video. i think a few users on here have it, lifeinvector and others.
a friend of mine who is a pro motion tracker, he has one a lots of his mates at work have them for video projects. But when the 550d is £650 and the GH-1 is £900, id save up for the GH-1!
- ^ OMG, how did i do that?!?!?
stupid inet! hahah

also, as previously mentioned the GH-1 is great value, but i didnt mention it costs around £900, and the lens alone costs £600.
its a great lens, design primarily for video.
Lumix G HD 14-140mm F4-5.8 OIS lens
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/…The other bonus of micro four thirds cameras is you can attach any micro four third lens, even ones from the 70s. And you can get some 70s' and 80's lenses that are really cheap and pretty good optics.
you may want to get a cheap £50 manual focus lens that has a wider aperture for some shallow DOF shots. i got an olympus one for £20, 50mm f1.8.
Remember the lumix panasonic lenses with OIs - are stabilized in lens, which means they can do stabilized video.
- ephix0
a new nikon has continuous auto focus in video mode. i like my 5d2 though
- Hombre_Lobo0
@ruffian i think you mistyped.
The GF-1 (hacked) is no where near as good as a 5d mkII for video, ive been shooting with one for 2 days solid now. The GH-1 is though.to my knowledge the best DSLR video cameras are as follows -
The 550D T2i
The 7D
The 5D mkII
The lumix GH-1Some say the STOCK GH-1 is better than a 5d MKII, its debated on forums.
Now the hacked GH-1, is incredible quality, superior to the 7D and 5d mkII by some margin.
And as a bonus, its less than half the price than a 5d MKII and about half the price of the 7D.
So you know the hacks are very very easy to do. download the firmware, download the hack program, press a few buttons, save the firmware, load it onto the camera and your done :)
- yuo, already made it clear :)Ruffian
- ha sry dude! :P
i said mistyped, cus i know your clued on lumix hacking! :P heheHombre_Lobo - no prob, must be my sticky fingers :)Ruffian
- ribs? :O
you got a Gf-1 dude? i forget :/Hombre_Lobo
