1. Don't get a point-and-shoot if you want good image quality.
2. Spend less on the body, and more on the lens.

- just to be a dick I would say you are wrong on point # 1 =) Once you are serious though # 2 is golden.

Nikon D90 + 50 1.8 + old 105 2.5 manual focus AIfor both, add a couple of Sunpak 333/422/433 flashes from ebay and a set of CTR-301P's from ebay for radio triggering + flashes and umbrellas, probably around $1k or so.... maybe slightly more

I have the t2i. It's great value for the price. The HD video is amazing too.
