AWSOME

What's so NICE WOW AWSOME about this, if you don't mind me asking? It's a fairly typical interface, doing little that hasn't been (which is to say, nothing) achieved already.
Genuinely curious about your reactions - not trying to goad anyone.
- Well, I get the 'nice' bit - it is quite nice after all :)detritus

I wish I could recall the prototype that this is clearly 'inspired' by.

Looks very nice.
id see detritus' point, its not new or ground breaking or innovative, but its executed very very nicely.

what baffles me is that when i installed this app, i was unable to add my twitter account to it because the Flipboard services were "overwhelmed"
what does my twitter account have to do with their services. surely i'm interacting with the application and twitter only, not some flipboard server thats saving my login details for no reason at all.
it seems to me that there may be something fundamentally wrong with how this has been put together.having said that, someone gave them $10.5million to put together an app their giving away for free. it will be interesting to see whether this survives.

Killer concept for the iPad. Love the youtube video. All in all, well done.

Samush, once you add your twitter account, it becomes a mag in its own right. Any articles posted in your twitter feed will be shown in Flipboard like a mag article - much like your own personalised magazine.
- yeah i understand what it does, just not why it relies on the flipboard servers.Samush

Might be well executed, but I don't see (personally) WTF the point is. Weak product, IMO, and I don't get how a VC would consider sinking $10.5M into a product with no revenue stream. I think the social media bubble needs to pop, already...
I'm going to create an app that uses all of your friends' information to recommend when you should take a shit. It'll have a big "POOP NOW" alert and then it will make fart noises.

I think CubanCouncil had it first, but for the iPhone: http://www.myibend.com/
- Oops, I thought this product was being discussed: http://www.movie-peg…dbreck
- Oh! I thought you'd seen this earlier .. http://www.wired.com… :)detritus

I get it only because it's been done a million times since what? 1990 at least?
- if its used enough, they'll probably start running ads on it i'm guessinginstrmntl

Indeed. But, hasn't anyone learned yet? This kind of behavior screams the dot-com mentality. And look how well that turned out...At least, unlike many others, the product actually exists and isn't vaporware. :)

My flipboard would be empty since I don't have a Twitter or Facebook account. That being said, I don't own an iPad either.
God...this thread really isn't for me.

I think it looks really cool. I'd have to use it a bit before I make a final judgment. I feel the same about the iPad in general.

"hasn't anyone learned yet?"
Nope. Fucking monkeys...

- It's NICE because it's pretty looking and seems to function well
- It's WOW because it exists (unlike that vimeo version you posted)
- It's AWESOME because it's free.

I downloaded this yesterday on the company ipad and it only handled 4 pages of data from Facebook. But their default magazines had like 80.
Just sayin.

It pulls from various content sources to create a nicely designed magazine based on your social sphere.
