Thinking about getting one. Can anyone out there who has one report on how good/bad it is? Any problems?

It's good, go for it.

This guy was wondering the same thing last week, and got some good insight. http://www.qbn.com/topics/636381…

They're great. Loads of screen real estate.

Yeah, the big screen is obviously very appealing for all sorts of things. I was just wondering if anyone had found any problems with their machine? Any bugs or problems to watch out for?

Got mine in 2007 and still fast and works great.
In 2009, added more RAM 2gig to 4Gig and changed the HD to 1TB. The Super drive started acting weird (spitting out disk) so I just bought an external Double Layer Blu-ray burner.
- how did you get the back open? did the apple store upgrade the drive for you?FredMcWoozy
- suction cups!
the front glass is magnetic.

I got one about a month ago. Brilliant machine, super fast. The CS 5 apps open in seconds etc.
Just don't with your back to a window, the glossy screen is like a mirror!
- I'm a rebel. I actually like glossy screens.boobs
- HAHA I love it too, but I have to work with the blinds down!Terminal27

Which CPU did you get? How much RAM?
- Terminal270
The 2.66 Quad core. Upgraded to 8gb of Ram in the shop.

love mine - no problems at all

Get an i5 or an i7, they're much faster and more future-proof (as more apps will use multithreading).
Also, buy from refurb store, they're cheaper and the only difference is the box is plain cardboard.

GOT ONE LAST MONTH, AND LOVE IT!

get the i7 whatever you do and load it up with ram

my bf has i7. One thing he doesn't like is how it heats up really quickly when he is working on after effects.

iMacs are great work machines. Plenty power and minimal investment on technology that you'll most likely want to replace in 3-4 years.

- 3-4 years is a good life for a machine, especially an all-in-one.monospaced

I have one. Quad-core with 8 GB of Ram. It's great. I've done video editing and some 3d rendering on it, and while not as fast as a well equipped MacPro, it has handled anything I've thrown at it with no problems.

It's ok until you have to do serious graphic work.
- the new iMac specs show it's faster than the Mac Pro, but can you really trust benchmarks? lolmonospaced
- serious graphic work. lol.akrok

I've heard the 27" screen is a little too much
- erikjonsson0
Just notch the screen brightness down to 60% and you will be fine :P
I love it, especially the resolution and the tiny dot pitch compared to the 24" cinema display.

Do they come with 64 bit processors? quads?

My buddy got one, and another friend in new york. Both Designers for a living and love it for home use. Not necessarily a render machine, but the screen combined with a small footprint makes it a win for a home computer. I have a tower with two dell monitors, and just hate how the dell monitors look at home. Great optics, crappy look. Rather have a nice 27" screen instead. Go for it, you can always return in 30 days if you don't want it.
