1 & 3 both looking best to me.

1 has a fresh yet classic look / 3 plays off the old logo so it depends on if they wanted more of a fresh look or just an addition to old logo

I tend to think the old logo is actually better, there's way too much going on in your iterations that will most–likely get lost at smaller sizes.. Why not just update the old one? Add some space between the ampersand and names, swap the "scroll-esque" keyline for just a normal keyline, look at using a different serif (concept 5 in the mixed case works best for me in terms of being more contemporary) then deal with the smaller copy as you have in concept 1?

1 and 5

I agree with the comment about the old logo. Sorry but it's better!

I agree with neue here - have they explicitly asked you to reinvent their wheel? I'd kind of expect a law firm to want to maintain the integrity of its image, merely expanding the existing form to incorporate the new partner.
Of all the routes taken, #3 (or, perhaps #5 without the column-top) would seem the most appropriate, taking into account detailage in their existing logo and using that somehow. The swirly breaklines in #3 are a bit over the top though. Needs toning down.
Their old ampersand is a little weak, but I'd still try to use a similar type of 'open ligature'.
What's with the 'PS'? Can that go? Has this been asked already?
- the tiny text in #5 is too close to the parent, for my liking - perhaps use the swirly breakline to separate?detritus

I like #1 the most, but I would lose all of the horizontal rules, because #1 already has too much stuff thrown at it.... logo icon, logotype, horizontal rules, P.S., "Attorneys at law," "Est. 1954" etc etc. Too much stuff.

I did the old logo a few years back and it is more finished, the others a are still rough. I think that might be why people are responding to that. I agree there's way to much stuff and now I've learned that Tizzano is viewing this as a merger and wants no ampersand and his old ID incorporated—'Legal Piece of Mind' with a dove and olive branch. Oh, Tizzano.
- mention to him that italy just got knocked out of the worldcup and that he can suck itidentity

I like 3.
I agree with bulletfactory...maybe the ampersand isn't necessary and you could just use the three names.
5 is missing the ps.
What about all lowercase serifs and not centering all the names? Just a thought.

What does Tizzano's logo look like?
