Thinking about moving

So I'm giving moving some thought. I'm thinking LA or San Francisco.. I've been in AZ for like 10 years now but I'm really up for some change and meeting new people.
I have always been in entertainment work, so LA seems more of a city for me.. I am solid at what I do and have a feeling I would blend in fairly quickly there and also have contacts in LA..
San Francisco on the other hand is a technology city and probably appeals to me more as it feels more urban and european like.
I don't know that many people if at all in San Francisco.. and it would be harder but I always had a feeling that San Francisco is more of a technology/business venture/investors city with a totally different way of looking at things. Maybe I"m wrong but that's what I feel overall.
Who's living here in San Francisco and who's in LA....?
Is San Francisco insanely expensive? What am I looking at if I wanted to get like a condo or a larger apt. (like 1200-1400sq. ft.)?
In LA I know it can go from $1200-$1500 in more modest places and up to $3500 at better more upscale places.
I would prefer to live in San Francisco as I think I would like that city more for living, but I'm just afraid that it will be much harder for me to establish connections.
What's the word?

1200-1400sq. ft will be quite expensive. maybe some loft has that in downtown. even do there is alot of smaller one. other wise, that wouldn't be a one bed room. more like two or tree.

I've lived in both LA and SF, and while a lot depends on your lifestyle, it's no contest in favor of SF for me.
You'll make contacts in either place if you're on it. The ones you make in SF will, on the whole, be more creative and adventurous.

In SF you won't need a car and it's somewhat of a pain in the ass if you do have one. in LA you will most certainly need a car, so factor that into your costs.

LA here for 11 years, from NY. I Love visiting San Fran, but if you are into any type of entertainment work (music, film, production) La is the place to be. I am not sure about the San Fran scene, but I never hear anything about it. If tech is what you're into, then by all means, go to San Fran. I stratal both the tech and entertainment world, so LA is perfect for me.
- yeah. specially if you going to FREELANCE.akrok

I think coming from AZ you'll find LA a little easier to adapt to.
One thing about SF is that I think a lot of jobs might be outside of the city and in Silicon Valley/San Jose. I'm guessing the jobs that are actually in SF have a lot of competition, but I have no way of really knowing other than a few friends of mine who work there have lost their jobs or been downsized in the past year or two.
I do agree that in general you'll find renting a place in SF more expensive than LA, but don't let that alone influence your decision. If you're going to actually make the move, go for the city that you think will fit you and your lifestyle the best.
People give LA such a bad rap, but there really are some redeeming qualities about it. It's so big that there is a place and a scene for everyone to fit in. But if you do wind up working in the entertainment industry, you might wind up living in Burbank which IMO is kind of a drag. Commuting across the city is a phenomenal bitch so it'll be good to live close to where you work.
Disclaimer: I've never lived in either city, but have friends who live in both and have visited each many times.

........
I'm sorry, did you say SF is "european like"?
Have you ever been to either? I'm curious to know in what sense you meant that..
