LOST just got picked up for another season.

Just wanted to add, everyone keeps saying that they all died on the island. That was not what the sideways flashes meant. Jack's dad made it clear when he said "There is no 'now' here. Some died before you, some died long after". It was a purgatory, but one they created to find each other and remember after death because they had become so close in life.
They all united in the afterlife, but because time is meaningless, that doesn't mean they were all dead at the same time and the island wasn't real. Those that escaped did escape and died later. Those that died on the island, did when they did.
Some of the questions people wondered about were answered:
Richard didn't age because Jacob gave him that gift.
People have been trapped on the island for ages, likely why there are temple people. Before there were plane crashes, ships were crashed. The ancient statue and temple was likely representing how far back people have been landing there.Jacob's mother was an island protector and the process she went through with Jacob and Jacob with Jack has probably been going for centuries. The island was 'corking' something' bigger and older than just the Man in Black, whether it was literally hell or not, they did leave unanswered.
I know they left a lot unanswered, but given the mess they made, they did do alright this season in trying to explain a lot.
- Best explanation yet :]Funkmonk
- four toed people not explained!twokids
- but generally good jobtwokids
- I am sure we could find 4 toed ancient statues in the real world. Doesn't have to be literal.ETM
- But likely they contemplated some alien story line and dropped the idea.ETM
- The statue might even have been a warning to other sailers to get the fuck away!!ETM
- maybe
twokids - Holy crap that sounds like a truckload of suck!marychain

I think though, they should have gone all out with the Christian mythology and just said the island helped contain Hell and the island protectors were actually Angels (or made so). Then MIB comes along, actually the Devil, born into the world to tempt and destroy the protector to release hell in the Armageddon precursor. I mean they sort of eluded to all this yet chickened out from actually pushing it 100%.

"That's one hell of a long con."
- ukit0
haha, I love the excuses they are throwing out BTW like "it was about character development."
Sorry, but this wasn't exactly Hewingway level material guys. It was an adventure show about people on an island. And frankly the characters were the least appealing element of it. Aside from 12 year olds on forums Photoshopping pictures of Hurley and Ben, my guess is 99% watched to get an answer to the mysteries.

So are black guys not allowed into heaven?
Echo
Walt
MichaelWhat happened to these guys?
- Walt's not dead. He left. Micheal is dead but trapped on the island. Revealed already.ETM
- Walt didn't have the same tie to the survivors, so likely he would not have been in their 'purgatory' before moving on.ETM
- Walt's not dead but Claire's baby is? Alright mang...ukit
- Hater's gonna hate.ETM
- Everything dies. Time is meaningless in heaven. So the child was just represented as the baby.ETM
- We know it survived and was a child when Kate took care of it.ETM
- Might as well say everything is meaningless, so why try to explain anything?ukit
- *shrugsETM
- Anyway, why is Michael trapped on the island? Makes zero sense.ukit
- He is a damned soul. The island was a place of second chances so maybe he can still redeem himself.ETM
- Walt had 4 toes.BK
- There we go. Once more mystery solved :DETM

Didn't Walt have some very special power ... what ever happened with that? .. I think the actor had a growth spurt and grew like Shaquille size and the writers just wrote him off
- Walt's only real power was that he had some special foresight, and that was it.dMullins

They where al not dead. everything happened the way it happened. Christian said that you can't think about here and now. Time is not linear in Lost. For instance Hurley probably was 'Jacob' for a very long time but when he died, they all come this place, with these people because of the bond they had when they where stuck on the island. For some people who are already dead this is also 'the gathering point'.

I am just curious what's next for TV how are they going to fill this gap with a decent show or will these actors disappear altogether. Btw the V sucks, and just about everyother tv show on television. Hopefully some of the guys from LOST stick together for new shows.
- there are still shows enough...

It took until this afternoon around lunch time, but I have reached peace with the finale.
The most interesting thing about LOST to me (besides all of the foreplay with the character development and some of the story arcs) is how it really revolutionized the way media transcends from television to other outlets. They practically broke podcasts out of the "box", created a powerful advocacy through a strong online community, and single-handedly changed the way television is expected to translate to the web medium. I think the people behind the scenes (not Darlton and crew) really deserve some applause for the creative and technological leaps they've made throughout the course of the show's history.
- While I loved the show, I fail to see how they created anything but a giant plot mess, and ultimately slapped their fans in the face with a B.S. magic wand ending...NONEIS
- the face with a happy ending magic wand episode.NONEIS
- Definitely agree with you, but when I say I came to peace with it, I just meant I am over being pissed.dMullins

So my question is..
what is the island need to be protected for?
- ukit0
Basically the ones who will find the ending satisfying...and apparently the show writers fall into this category too...are hardcore sci fi fans who are only too happy to accept a world that throws together psychic powers, time travel, ghosts, and a magical glowing light that controls the universe. For that audience, trying to explain every last thing obviously doesn't matter.
Nothing wrong with that of course...I just think a lot of people had expectations that it would have a more convincing way of wrapping it all up. Especially since the show's writing and directing was pretty solid for a TV series like this...and always implied there was some kind of ultimate mystery that wasn't really there at the end of the day.
- ETM0
Do people asking questions actually watch the show? Or catch an episode here and there and wonder why they have so many questions? Sure some are unanswered, but lots of them were.
- dMullins0
@Miguex: The whole anti-black thing is funny, but not accurate.
Eko, Michael and Walt are not dead yet. The LOSTies blew up the island in '75, which was previous to any of those three coming to the island, or being on the island.
- ETM0
I think the show is supposed to leave some things unanswered (easy out I know), so that fans can sit around and discuss/argue/contemplate as they have been doing the show's whole run. That was part of the fun.
- mg330
I keep going back and forth about the ending, but more so just about how the storyline has changed, what pieces they've left out, etc.
Several seasons ago it really felt like the show was going to be about the island, why it had to stay protected, and why it was sought after. I really was excited by the fact that the magical powers on the island were the big point of the show. In the end, they were to a point, but not really the same thing as they could have been.
I really wanted it to be about the Losties desire to leave or stay, abandon or protect it. Frankly, they could have finished up in fewer seasons and stuck to that kind of storyline.
- dMullins0
What are the things that were unanswered that everyone keeps talking about? I'd like to see a punch list of some sort...
- well, if you actually been paying attention through out the entire show, you must have questions right?Miguex
