Anyone else ever dump a beverage on their laptop? Just this morning I dumped an entire cup of coffee on mine. I don't know if it's dead or not. I'm not even going to attempt to start it up for at least a few days.

i know it may sound strange but if you douce your laptop in vodka the alcohol will evaporate all the liquids inside, let sit and dry for 3-5 days and it should work, you should google what i am describing as there is a lot of posts describing this exact thing..
- isn't that alcohol abuse? :) I'll check it out. Thanks!fugged
- this is usually done when water spills in the laptop, not sure about coffee..e-pill
- since the viscosity of the coffee will be thicker as it has many other things with it..e-pill
- from your pic it looks like it has milk in it and possibily sugar.. which will crust when dried.e-pill
- good luck sucks to hear that happened..e-pill
- Yeah, I'm hoping the cream and sugar made it less viscous and less conducive.fugged
- Sugar is a good insulator I'm afraid.slappy

same thing happened to me. i took a hair dryer to it. everything all works dandy now, but i managed to melt off four keys on my keyboard...so i wouldn't recommend doing it that way...or if you do don't get the dryer any where near you think might be too hot.

kitty litter, the blue gel ones...

Just dry it out .. maybe take it to bits and clean it too.
The danger is, if you operate it while there's still liquid in it, it'll short circuit and fry some of the electronics.

Wow. Thanks for all the responses. Fortunately I immediately powered down, removed the back cover, took out the battery and have fans blowing on it. But I appreciate all the tips, nonetheless.

battery out.....shove it in a bag of rice. wait 24 hours.....sounds nuts, but it worked for me on a laptop and a few cellphones.......

The dessicating agent trick (rice) works for water, the problem with coffee is it leaves a residue when it evaporates, even worse if milk or sugar involved. This will probably damage dvd drives and maybe circuit boards. If it has a removable battery you should have taken it out, if not the damage may already be done. By all means it dry out before switching on but first you should remove the drive, clean it off and recover your data. The laptop itself may need professional cleaning.

It's taking everything in me not to pop the battery back in and fire it up. If not to satisfy my curiosity if the machine is dead, to at least get some work done and get people off my back...
