Isoproyl alcohol is best for cleaning internal parts, it's often sold as lcd cleaner.

I spilt beer all over the keyboard of my Mac Book Pro at a VJ gig one time, the space bar use to jam up but now it's fine

Yaaaaay!!!
Always a relief. You could just open it up and clean it. Get some ethanol and some cotton buds, go roundthe keyboard and trackpad and it will be like new!
I think it's ethanol, double check though! :)

Just booted up. All systems go... (for now). The keyboard is a bit crunchy, and the trackpad's button action is a bit whacked; but I can live with that until I can upgrade.
Whew. Thanks again for all the tips.

20oz mug of tea on my first. Killed keyboard and trackpad.
Tankard of beer, large glass of red wine, glass of Kool-Aid on my second. Killed keyboard, trackpad, wireless reception reduced to half range, Superdrive died after two months.
I am not to be trusted.
- maybe you should make a rule not to drink by your machineflashbender

Hopefully your machine will dry out and be usable - in the interim: go outside, hug your children... do anything but use your laptop.

coffee took out my mac keyboard...def dont use it for liek a day and let it properly dry.

^ Don't do it....

It's taking everything in me not to pop the battery back in and fire it up. If not to satisfy my curiosity if the machine is dead, to at least get some work done and get people off my back...

The dessicating agent trick (rice) works for water, the problem with coffee is it leaves a residue when it evaporates, even worse if milk or sugar involved. This will probably damage dvd drives and maybe circuit boards. If it has a removable battery you should have taken it out, if not the damage may already be done. By all means it dry out before switching on but first you should remove the drive, clean it off and recover your data. The laptop itself may need professional cleaning.

sounds like a first world problem, butterfingers

battery out.....shove it in a bag of rice. wait 24 hours.....sounds nuts, but it worked for me on a laptop and a few cellphones.......

Wow. Thanks for all the responses. Fortunately I immediately powered down, removed the back cover, took out the battery and have fans blowing on it. But I appreciate all the tips, nonetheless.

should have gotten the ipad instead.

Just dry it out .. maybe take it to bits and clean it too.
The danger is, if you operate it while there's still liquid in it, it'll short circuit and fry some of the electronics.
