I actually would love a porsche, anything but that 4 door and/or the SUV. they have diluted their brand by added anything more that 2 door coupes and convertibles.

I know a couple people who had Porsche's, their love affair for the car faded quickly...

If you are buying used (modern or vintage), team up with someone that know all the details about the weak points about them. Search for Porche Owners Clubs around your area - these guys are often very passionate about the cars and have a great deal of knowlegde.

If you can do simple brake jobs and oil changes yourself, it should be much more affordable. Befriend old porsche guys and they may help you do a clutch change too.
I wanted an 02 996 but I bought an 02 m3 instead, because it was 5k cheaper.
You should be able to get a 06 cayman or boxster for less than 30k now.

Awesome thx. Better start saving rigorously...
- you probably shouldn't buy it all cash. a car is not a investment. it's a expense.akrok

I owned an '87 guards red 944 with my partner. I would not own the car as a primary driver. It was ALWAYS in the shop. We also had a 318 at the time and I thought the beemer was much better at handling. The 944 had a very firm ride and you felt like you were sitting on the ground. I will say that if you took it on the highway and floored it...it was very exhilarating. I miss it at times.
