"Humans are too stupid to prevent climate change, according to the British scientist James Lovelock."Link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/scienc…
(Lovelock, who 40 years ago originated the idea that the planet is a giant, self-regulating organism – the so-called Gaia theory.)
- -Well, I think he's right. We're fucked. We are doomed. We are too stupid.
Whatcha think?

lol, course we are. Those who aren't stupid know this, hence democracy (divide and conquer).

I agree, I am a complete stupid fuck wit..

We will do drastic changes when people will die in big cities and when it will cost too much to prevent the consequences of climate changes. But then, it will be already too late.

Without having RTFA, I'd posit that Lovelock slightly misses the point of his own theory - Gaia looks on remorselessly upon our 'stupid' intransigence to our whims. She cares not. We are just a mode to her. A means to an end - we are the drone creatures of the anthropocene, shaping the world for her next stage - a force against entropy, nothing more.
Who cares if we die out? As long as the world continues, we'll have played our part.
If we're this stupid, we don't deserve pity.

Actually, it's pretty stupid to think we *could* prevent climate change at all. The earth gun do wut the fuck it wants to do, yo.

China had the right idea with the one-child policy.. I think the human rights organisations that fought against it are the dumasses.
If we had a worldwide policy of one child per couple for a generation or two then one child per person.. it would sort all this shit out!

The Earth will survive us and heal up after we are gone. Then, animals that had survived will evolve and everyting will start back as a new, maybe cooler, planet Earth.
- benfal990
Imagine if the Earth was only inhabited by animals and plants.

In 1989 ecologists said authoritatively that regardless of all human effort put to clean the area it would take a century for life to return to the Exxon Valdez site.
20 years later it's almost back to normal: seals lingering on the rocks and fishermen catching perfectly healthy fish.I am not saying, let's destroy the Earth, it's just we underestimate its regenerative and self-regulating abilities.
- Aye, true - but there's still a dickload of heavy oil, subsurface, and oodles of gene mishaps.detritus
- but yeah, I won't disagree - we're right to be fearful for our own future, just not the Earth's itself.detritus
- your analyse is oh so wrong. a lot of things have changed since 1989.benfal99
- oooh really,

Truth be told - for the long term view, the more horrifically we treat our beloved biosphere, the bigger a favour we're doing her in the long run. What does the sustained human atomic/boilogical/chemical assault on nature do? Force mutation. What does mutation do? Creates stronger creatures.
Same thing CO2 - what does that do? melts the ice caps. What does that do? Release a fuckload of methane clathrates. what does that do? Create a runaway greenhouse effect. What does that do? Fucks over higher order animal societal structures... but, makes the bottom end, including plantlife, go fucknuts crazy with renewed potential.
Personally, I'd welcome a deeper temperate zone, higher atmospheric water content and quite a few billion less humans.
That'd be just peachy.

"Even the best democracies agree that when a major war approaches, democracy must be put on hold for the time being. I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while."
the thing that saddens me in this subject is how those frackin eugenicist rebranded themselves as earth lovers, Gaia here, Gaia there, but they have no Idea who or what is gaia (he wasn't even the one that came out with the idea ffs),
