My wife and I were discussing Apple and how they shut down the 'erotic' apps and also how they do not want Flash on the iPhone or iPad.
She said 'They are kind of like Disney. They want to control your experience completely. They want you to have a nice, pretty, safe experience and they need complete control to do that".
I thought that she was exactly right. Apple is EXACTLY like Disney in that way.
Now she LIKES that...for me, I go more the Open Source route, where things are wilder, but I can appreciate that people want that.
And in makes sense when you think of their business moves. Flash messes that vision up, as do overly erotic apps.

ok?

Mothers control all the money.

Ok if there is a market for 'erotic' apps for your fucking iPhone/iWhatever there is something seriously wrong with the world.

isn't this called "design"?
there will be plenty of other platforms that aren't designed. they'll let you do whatever you want but the whole experience will be a non-cohesive mess. a designed experience is one with controlled guidelines.
- think of how a game is designed, you don't need COMPLETE control to create a good user experience.zarkonite

Isn't the technical term UX? Or: User Experience?
- vespa0
a more accurate comparison is
apple = pixar

true - that is the case. But this is also something that is supposed to connect the web, which isn't exactly 'designed'.The iPhone can kind of control that. I cannot see how the iPad, which, as Jobs says, is 'holding the internet in your hands' going to be able to control that

Interestingly since Steve Jobs was the financial backer for Pixar, since Disney bought pixar Steve Jobs is now the largest single shareholder of Disney...cha-ching.
Also, I support Apple's methods, their aim was always to make computers as simple as possible to the average user, they do this by controlling both the hardware and the software so they work seamlessly. The majority of users don't want to have to get technical with their computers, quite the opposite. They don't support flash because as Steve Jobs said, more often than not when a mac or safari crashes it's because of flash (his words).
The thing I don't like about the App store is they make it seem like it's truly open (like proper open source platforms) but they really control it all.
If you want more open source I'd go for the obvious choices... linux etc.
- no their aim is to control people experience of the net, you can make things easy without blocking contents, this is bs (angry key strokes with no caps)GeorgesII
- exactly. the general public wouldn't know what to do with linux.vespa
- vespa: if it weren't for file compatibility (office) Linux distros provide all the tools out of the box for everyday use.zarkonite

Man, Disney is wayyyy worth,
Apple could be bought by Disney if only they wanted to,New disney slogan. Disney corrupting our youth's mind since the 50's.

Flash will destroy all paid apps if they allow it. Porn will cause parents not let kids have an iphone (for the rich ones) and/or ipod touch (for all the other ones) its simple logic. Why cut out more than half the people they are marketing too?
- vespa0
well the internet browsing experience will still have to be designed, even if it's the open internet.

Apple has come off for a long time as this really cool design oriented place. Designers think they are so cool, so modern, which = free thinking. But really they are locked down and controlling in a way that is the opposite of what most designers think that being in 'design' is all about.

can you please give us an example Vespa?
It will be funny if your disk were only allowed to use a cymbal and a drum but no guitar because its too hard to grasp.
Would you say the same then?
if you're too dumb to learn and instrument doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to play one, same with the internet, if you fall for the 4chan pranks, that doesn't mean you shouldn't use the net.WE WANT BOOBS
my 2ct- sorry I don't understand your point.vespa
- you said internet exp need to be designed, I'm saying that it should be let as it is, if you want it design buy and apple, but we shouldn't be forced to follow your pathGeorgesII
- but we shouldn't be forced to follow your path or have restrictions put upon us, then complain about China which pretty much controls the user experience thereGeorgesII
- complain about China which pretty much controls the user experience thereGeorgesII
- are you saying you have the ability to connect directly to the internet, without a browser?vespa
- I'm saying once you're connected, you shouldn't have to be locked out of certain content because it hurts your feelingsGeorgesII
- feelings. if you don't want to see certain thing just don't go on it. simpleGeorgesII
- It's not the web, it's apps.raf

I read that Flash doesn't support Multi-Touch... seems like a pretty big deal breaker.
- vespa0
twokids, do you design?
design IS control. That is the point of it.

I thought it was a telling sign when apple called the iPad magical, no?
