Audio needs? That'll be the clincher...
- Check to be sure, your EF-S lens *may not work* with the 7D...DoktorDavid

I have a 7d but work with a lot of video and animation. So far my experience with the 7d is great but the major draw backs are the sound which sucks, an alternate sound recording device is highly advised. Also, the camera just does not do very well with either auto focus or quick movements from the camera itself (zooms, fast pivots, etc.)
The pluses however is that with a fairly low level of skill you will get good looking pictures and video with little adjusting. Also what i really like is that it makes the quicktimes for you as single clips on your card without having to cut anything up and no raw conversion

ok, thanks you all for your feedback...
Yes, good sound is needed for shooting...
i'll go for the camcorder.
Cheers!

This video contains all you need to know about using the 7D for projects that typically are reserved for camcorders. Sound, etc.

I say go for the 7D. You will not regret it!

I'm not the expert by any means, but I think an HD camcorder is best suited for your needs. The 7D's video might "look" great, but that's probably because of the lens and such. My understanding is that even though they shoot video, these digital cameras don't function quite like camcorders yet. From the way it auto-focuses to the way you use the files, it's just a whole different thing. If you already have a good digital SLR, go get a decent HD camcorder instead of another camera.

What do you need to shoot?
Do you need good sound?
- go camcorder if you consider sound importantmonospaced
- as in, way more optionsmonospaced
- the sound on the DSLRs is shit. You need separate recording, and then have to sync in post.harlequino
- the more I think about it, the more I realize that shooting video with a digital SLR seems like a huge pain in the assmonospaced
- It really is, unless you have no dialogue or are a sound ace. Check our pr2's blog, he details more issues as well.harlequino
- Don't get me wrong, some great imagery to be had, but it's still disceptive in its cost effective "solution" for full HD with optics.harlequino

That engadget video is way too amateurish to even start talking about all things done wrong in it.
You won't get good audio unless you put the mic close to your sound source thus putting any kind of mic on top of any camera is BAD decision. So if the OP's concern is good audio... then know that it doesn't come with the camcorder. You will need extra lav mic and a boommic on a boom.
- Couldn't agree more. That engaget video is a terrible idea.harlequino

Until you tell us what is your skill level and what you need the camera for (specifically) this question can't be answered.
