I love how old techniques are re-emerging now that dSLRs are becoming so widespread.

I played with this all night. Some damn fine results! An AF lense did not work so well since the aperture closes when you detach it but an old Nikon F- lense worked excellent, esp. at 1.4
i'll be using this more often. Cheers.

1: duplicate layer
2: filter>gussian blur
3: gradient maskHaha nah kidding i know it wouldn't have the same effect at all. Damn i really must try this! Seen lenses that do it, but great to see you can do it freehand!!!
*goes home and watches tv all night*

@projectile: lens blur would have a better (more similar) effect than gaussian blur

@epic_rim - you mean to say, you use a MF lens held in front of a 35mm camera, or in front of a MF camera?

Also when filming with a HD Movie equiped SLR, try to hit with a solid metal hammer on the top of the SLR, makes for great noise/distortion effects. To avoid scratches on your pensy cam put a few condoms over the head of the hammer.
