Hmmmm...
Usually photographers lead campaigns.
- not that i've seen. the designers lead it and instruct photographersversion3

Hmm.. that can be true. But depending on the ad agency if they have an account for a brand they hire the photographer... I'm sure it works several different ways.
Thanks for the input!

"Usually photographers lead campaigns."
lol, no. This is wrong.
Who were you calling a student again?
- You. Unlike many branding campaigns, high profile fashion houses will pursue a photographer before any art director.fuckinglol_prophet

Oh dear Fibonacci.
I suppose you just know everything about this too? :P
Actually, fashion campaigns tend to be much more focused on the renown of individual photographers—i.e. according to distinctions gained via editorials in specific magazines. Photographers in this capacity become very much their own brand, unlike many so called 'commercial' photographers whom art directors select at their own discretion to do other types of product and service branding campaigns. Fashion models (as opposed to 'commercial models') are also increasingly cast the same way.
I work in this industry. Do you?
- Not really the topic we were on 2 posts ago, but thanks for pointing out the obvious!********
- I mean, fashion likes famous photogs and famous models?? Who would have known??********
- Such a groundbreaking revelation.********

I work for a few fashion brands. Often the advertising is commissioned by the Creative Director of the brand and they collaborate with big names. EG Gucci and Chris Cunningham or David Lynch. No Ad agency was used as an intermediary.
This is changing however. Burburry's recent flurry of advertising was done in conjunction with BBH for example, and I know Gucci are looking for an ad agency to help them out too.
That said, Leo Burnett have an internal luxury advertising group called Atelier. and I suppose Show Studio count too. Also Create the group do a lot of digital luxury stuff.

Sorry should add, that there are no fashion brands that have ever handed over creative responsibilities of their advertising. It's absolutely part of the remit of the brands Creative Director.
So in short your answer is that there are none unless you want to work for a fashion brand

Createthe Group is very noteworthy when it comes to doing online presences. But their work usually focuses on look books/catalogs. They have marketed themselves as a platform creator for these types of database driven sites.

Thanks Kezza!
Basically, I work a photo lab doing retouching for photographers who shoot fashion editorial or cd art. We also work with Ogilvy, Team One, etc doing everything from car ads to lifestyle images.Ive always wanted to take my skills in retouching and my creativity to work on creative direction for fashion campaigns in print or commercial. I guess i wasn't sure if some of these brands ie D&G have in house creative directors or if they were represented by like an agency.
Thanks for all the input!

no worries. I work with Gucci and Rolex and ive worked with D&G, Dunhill, Boudicca and Chanel.
All those guys have their own internal design department, layout our ads, retouching ads etc etc. So my advise if you wanted to do that stuff is to contact the brands directly. Tough gig to get into.
- i have a few contacts to some local LA magazines.. Do you suggest starting out doing creative direction for a magazine?HelloRandy

fuckinglol_prophet, admit it, a photographer never "leads" a campaign unless they also "lead" the brand in question (i.e. Karl Lagerfeld).
