so some guy wanted to base a new channel on a photo of you ? ?
- Fabricio0
I am not sure how to approach this whole situation, but I believe maybe you guys are taking a bit too far, maybe they didnt have a douchebag intention of pre-selecting people based on their looks as we might have assumed and maybe they do indeed just want to have a preview of personality and etc.
I have been through a interview here in Denmark, where the person I was going to talk to, printed, all my works from the website, and a whole page with just my photo from my portfolio!! I felt kinda uncomfortable, but then he started to talk about how he wanted to approach the new design of the channel and etc, and he got my photo in his hand and said "we want something like this now!!"... I felt it was weird, but it was funny at the same time (if he only knew how much drinks i've had moments before I took that photo :) )
But now.. this... is a different story:

Proud Camden is a fucking joke anyway, the last time I was passed through there was pictures practically falling off the walls or poorly hung at best with the cheapest, shoddiest framing and mounting I've ever seen in a 'gallery'. It was basically a laughable mess with an awful bar idea that looked like blue peter had knocked it up i an afternoon. I much preferred browsing the vintage furniture that used to occupy the space.
- yes i can confirm its a marketing company and not a gallery - london doesnt need this dumpSlashPeckham

You want a naked pic of Jaline? Maybe you can send it...

I don't believe in race or ethnicity. Everyone is a shade of brown, light or dark, and some people are cunts about it. End of.
- Invalid0
^ is that like when white people proudly say, "i'm not racist, i've had 3 black people in my house".
not saying these guys a racist or anything. just reminded me of that sketch... can't remember who the comedian was.
- mikotondria30
Im not sure what she means by their ethnic composition being "FAR out of proportion to racial breakdown of the UK, proving there is no prejudice."...
Surely if it is far OUT of proportion to the national breakdown then something odd is going on with the hiring.
It would be a somewhat foolish person to actively selectively only employ white men at their company, even if that ethic and gender group was disproportionately represented within the applicant groups. Such a firm would do well to reject people on the basis of their ethnicity and or gender, and employ someone who would shift their numbers in line viz za party norms, yiss ?- Fucking dinner party liberals.

wow, this really blew out didn't it...?

Can I just send you my photo?
The whole 'job thing' is somewhat secondary...Sincerely,

There's a lot of good reasons why it's illegal to ask for such things where I live....
- dMullins0
Are so many people really crying over a request to send a photo?
- fooler20
I think I've got all my jobs based on my looks..... hence the lack of work lately
- Projectile0
daymn dude, a lot of companies have a lot worse ways of going about things than asking for a photo. How frikkin far left-wing are you?
If you don't like it, leave it alone. Or do you not want to send a pic because you nailed his daughter and he'll recognise you?
- elpaso0
1) How many companies your size bother to employ designers? what an odd question. surely size is irrelevant. I've been hired by a 2 person studio and 300.. I get the fact that you might have to look at them the whole day .. but to be honest... if we picked people out of headshots instead of ability.. we'd only really have ME working here // ;P
so you don't really care about the photograph .. you just want to see if they send ANY photograph. it's a test of "efficiency"?
it sounds like you're biting the hand that "feeds you"

Subject: Your job ad...Alex – I thought your email was a bit reactionary... I think you have a real issue here from a PR point of view and I’m sorry I gave you the heads up on what the design community thinks about this sort of job advertisement. Instead of sending out childish emails you should really be amending your HR policy so you eliminate any potential legal issues... If a candidate sends in a resume without a photo and you don’t look at it then that could be considered as indirect discrimination – its easy enough to prove if someone wants to pick a fight with your gallery... Seriously protect yourself
It bothers me Alex that after taking all the risks of going to art college these young designers have put up with this – designers should be hired on their talent (its the only way to go) and not on the shallow desires of idiots like yourself who just want to window dress their shop – its obvious the Proud Galleries doesn’t like creative people and refuses to qualify a fair employer...
Sorry for pointing this out

Your comments are odd.
1) How many companies my size bother to employ designers?! We have a full time paid position. In an office (so no window dressing) in a recession. You and your “community “ wish to bite the hand that feeds you that is your prerogative.
2) We have nothing to worry about legally as our office is full of men and woman of all races and always has been, FAR out of proportion to racial breakdown of the UK, proving there is no prejudice.
3) We do ask for a photo as we find, somewhat like spelling mistakes and sending a cv, it is a quick check to see who can be bothered to send all the items we ask for, and if they don’t bother we know they are not efficient and will not interview.
4) You can also see a lot about how someone dresses or if they use humour with the photo and that helps us build up a picture of the person and what they are like, not on what they look like.
I also was not rude to you , i said bothers “them”.
It bother me Asif that we are a rare small company that employs people out of art college and give them a salary and you call them an “idiot”. Wow, considering the rates of unemployment in your industry you might have though you would be over the moon with me?!
Chiara please register on the site and edit this e mail and post it.
Best

you don't feed me as far as I know,
"We do ask for a photo as we find, somewhat like spelling mistakes and sending a cv, it is a quick check to see who can be bothered to send all the items we ask for, and if they don’t bother we know they are not efficient and will not interview."I'll take your advice and next time I screen an applicant, i'll ask him for a 8 legged spider
