you dumb-dumbs.
Tripods are very important. You can loose all your equipment in one subtle click. trust me, i have watched it. there is glass (lens) out there that weigh 5+ pounds, some tripods are not even rated 2 pounds.
- You really want to look at the weight rating. This includes all equipment mounted and go from there.
- Quick release, locking, and overall panning, tilting systems.Think ... Do you trust this "product" to "hold" on your camera and would you hold this tripod over the edge with your camera mounted?

an expensive tripod will not help you take a better picture, no matter how much carbon fiber is in it.
buy a $80 manfrotto and spend the money you saved on hookers and blow.

Just make sure you get a tripod that is guaranteed to hold the weight of camera body, lens, ballhead, flashes, etc. The same goes for the ballhead on top. Personally, I'd choose a Gitzo Carbon Fiber tripod and Really Right Stuff BH-55 (ballhead).
And enjoy your 7d, you lucky bastard!
- wtf. you could buy a used dslr for that much money.bigtrick

Manfrotto. End of.

what would you actually use the tripod for?
- MrT0
If I can get one for less, I will. But I got a very good deal on the camera, saved more than that and figured I'd get a good tripod.
It doesn't mean I will spend that.I wanted to see what was recommended and some of these have been over $500.
So, knickers.

I bought a fairly sturdy piece of shit from the office depot for 19.99 and I really can't say it sucks.
Though, I'm curious to see where this thread goes....

The thing I don't like about Manfrottos is they are usually bulkier, and the controls on the legs are annoying...

The tripod head use is similar to this...

I have a smaller one, & with head was around $500
Honestly, it breaks down really well, extremely light and by far the best tripod I have owned.
