whereRI - ebay. and whatever the equivalent of craigslist is over there. get 2x as much for your money, mate.
i got one of these:
for $650. would have probably cost $2200 new.
look for a decent frame from a good company or a good builder, and a decent gruppo. shimano 105 or better is good.
don't fret about spoke count on the wheels - that is nonsense.
most importantly, test-ride whatever you are going to buy. the fit of the bike, especially the frame size, matters more than the model of the bike itself. on the flip side, you can retrofit a new stem/handlebar/saddle onto any bike to make it fit perfectly - remember that too - but the frame size you're stuck with.
happy riding!
- thanks for the advice!********
- what are some of the good frame builders?********
- all the big names will be fine - cannondale, specialized, trek/gary fisher, orbea, etc.********
- basically, if they sell it at a physical bike store, it's probably fine.********
- then there are a ton of independent small builders that know their shit, but their bikes will probably be $$$$********
- ted wojcik is one - my bike is one of his (:

I bought a bike at walmart the handle bar keeps sliding around.

oh - also - i don't know if this goes on in europe or not too, but here in the states, ebay is flooded with new bikes fitted with good components for a seemingly-irresistible price. like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/52CM-MOTOBEC…
basically, the components are great for the price because the frame is very cheaply made. these bikes are never sold at bike shops - only online, at "heavily discounted" prices. stay away from these, too.

dudes, are the 105's that important? whats the major difference?
they sooo much more expensive...
- ********0
^ it's not that important. i had a specialized allez with sora/tiagra components for a long time before upgrading. better groupsets are smoother, shift with more immediacy, etc.
- test-ride - you'll see. if the difference doesn't matter much to you, go with the cheaper stuff (:********

most people have advised me to not go anything lower than 105, because to upgrade is nearly the same price as entry bike...
i dunno what to do now. on one hand i think its crazy to spend 1000euro on a bike when i dunno if im gonna stick with it, on the other its crazy to spend 700 on something i will want/have to upgrade if i really enjoy it. the 105 set here is 700 bucks.
- find a used on on craigslist you can get a decent bike for $500.00 on the web shipping may be another $200 though74LEO

Just look around. There are a lot of bad ass used bikes floating around. This looks nice.

yields some decent-looking results ("veloce" being the campagnolo groupset equivalent of shimano 105)

I picked up a Specialized Allez Double last year. Love the bike, not the strongest components but its a good starting bike.
