He wants the credit, he wants the kudos. Ask him to give you a good reason why you are not able to push your own design across the finishing line.

He may reply, quite sharply, that it is because you are, frankly, shit, and you do sloppy work, and as the Creative Director it falls upon him to make sure the job gets finished off properly, because the reputation of the company rests on the quality of the work that makes it out into the big wide world, and you just haven't got an aptitude for a tidy finish, and god knows he's had to jostle and cajole you all the way along on this job already, because your own ideas were pretty shit and you were just not doing a very good by yourself.

But don't listen to that. He's just fucking with you.

    I'll explain that a bit...
an agency i used to work at, the CD was this awesome awesome guy...he totally took the time to explain to me everything that was going on....taught me as many tricks about art direction as he could, and never ever minded working with me to make something better....on a few occaisions, he would ask me to send him what i was working on, and the next day i'd stop by his desk to find he'd finished it, changed things, and sent it off to the client....on each occasion, i asked about it, and explained it in detail...whatever the facts were etc...and in each case, it was absolutely teh cool/right thing to do....i never got upset, and was (and still am) in awe about what a decent guy he is, and how fantastic it was to work with him....

    however...

his partner at the time was this dude, who was a copywriter/half-assed designer (did a lot of quark-stuff for print but that's about it) he was also the main suit-guy...did most of the client relations stuff etc...

there were many, many occasions where he took credit for work that was done by myself....
and more than a few times he would alter work i'd done and pass it along to the client..and it was NEVER better after he'd messed with it....
that guy was super hard to be around for those and other reasons...

oddly enough though, aside from that, outside of work he was tres cool to party with. lol....

i've asked..its more the morals of it to me. a project i've spent weeks on is just roped out from under me for no apparent reason. so i ask politely and get the answer, "no no worries we needed to have it finalized by noon today, thanks." maybe next time ill throw a tantrum on his fridge.
