Hi, where have the days gone where you could post some work on here and get a friendly response and some constructive critism. I remember four years ago you could post something on here and it wasn't great you would be told it's not great , why and your thoughts on how to make it better. I do not claim to be a great graphic designer but I post on here to try and get some constructive feedback to try and improve. But all I seem to see are sarcastic comments which are no help at all.

I am not sure it wasn't always this way.
Alas, you are not incorrect. It is a lot of dudes with 9 screen names that like to poke fun at people, start threads that are non-sense, provoke arguments, etc.
QBN rules - 1. no logo redesign has ever been better than the original. 2. no critique will ever be positive.

maybe when we all have google wave we can start an invite only community that has constructive feedback?
.........QBN-PRO-WAVE?

its always been a dangerous place to get criticism. There are brilliant people here who give amazing advice (though usually with a pretty poe face and little time for niceties - tough shit), but you've always had to filter out the high percentage of A. people who shouldn't be advising anyone on anything, and B. cunts.
Its a bit worse now, but not hugely to be fair.
The A. above is a far better reason not to post anything out in the open here than the B., by the way.; So many people on here don't know their arse from their elbow it would be funny if it wasn't actually quite a worrying trend

giving design critiques gets boring. Most people on this forum have exhausted their critique patience braincells.

would be handy to have a function that blocks critiques by people who don't have their own portfolio on their profile.
generally if someone slates your work, and has an awesome portfolio, then you should try again. if they slate you, take the piss and thier profile links back to qbn, then they are, as kelpie says. B.

It can be harsh here, but its not as harsh as perceptions can sometimes suggest. A lot of the time, people post stuff here that masquerades as a request for constructive criticism, but is secretly hoping for confirmation that they have done awesome work.
When people do that, and are really, erm, 'stoked' by their latest piece of work, and are secretly looking for some back slaps, then they tend to react badly to what amounts to good honest feedback if the feedback they get is not bloated with adoration.
In that situation, people tend to feel picked upon, and assume that people are just sniping because they are jealous. So in that way the genuine constructive feedback gets lumped in with the spattering of genuinely snipey and sarcastic posts, and creates the impression that the overall feedback was bitter and negative.
Its the house style here to pepper posts, comments, feedback with a brusque, sharp tongued bit of slapstick. Its the family style, and you either belong to the family and get it, or you don't, and you get upset.
How many times do you see bunches of males together saying nice positive affirmative encouragements and compliments to each other, like ladies at a flower arranging workshop. Never. The pub? never. The sports field? never. The changing rooms? never. The leatherboys fisting club? never. The MotoX track? never. The shooting range? Never.
So why the fuck would we all cuddle up and act like a well woman clinic here on QBN?
SO GO FUCK YOURSELF SOLDIER. YOUR WORK SUCKS. YOU SUCK. GTFO.

It's okay he's just proving the point of this thread in my opinion.
- Wow, you just proved my point with this post.

...it is what you make it.

I've found that you can get some really good constructive feedback if you roll your posts out well. There are a lot of really talented individuals here, but a lot of douche bags who think they are brilliant too.
I try to help where I can but also enjoy a jovial leg pulling. Since joining I think it's got worse but I never felt this place was too friendly. Which is fucking great.
