It's so hard to find a programmer that knows good design.
There are many talented programmers, but when it always comes down to me saying: "5px to left", "the line height is wrong", etc.
I give them layouts. I give them PSDs.
It's so frustrating. How can I find a programmer who has design skills? Them not being socially awkward would be a plus too!

lol. ( cause it's true )
- truth is, that programmers that are designer don't need you, and they make 3 times as much as you do :(Meeklo

whats 5 pixels here and there? stop being so anal.
- sublocked0
wish i could help you out, but i'm already busy :(
good luck in your search.

yeah, you're kind of an old school designer, sending psd files

create you own HTML/CSS and pass it on — problem solved.

build your own server, create your own databases, script all your server side code, write all your ajax from scratch - invent 3.0. fuckin hell. stop being lazy damn it.

no, i agree. i've worked in several jobs as a UX designer where I've spec'd up my visuals with heights and widths down to the pixel and they always give you something that looks different to what you give them.
in these cases HTML/CSS has been their job. theyre hired to do the front end dev. thats what they do. but they fuck it up!
now I'm seeking to teach myself and I suck at code.
so, NoFavourite, if you find one, let me know. i'll have a lot of work for him/her.

There does seem to be a segment of the community that has front-end development down to a science - but last time I looked there were only about two or three hundred of them and they spend most of their time blogging or speaking at conferences.

@NoFavorite - I definitely agree with you. most developers I know really arent artists. They dont really appreciate alignments, and layouts down to the pixel.
My brother (Tresudek) and I are both developers that were formally full-time designers. We know pixels, and we know front-end and back-end. I think we can make your life a lot easier.
- it's very humble of you not to show that off in your workraskolnikov
- what the heck are you talking about?heavyt
- heavyt - I think he means your site doesn't look so crash hot. Your work looks ok, but I'm guessing you guys only program?Amicus

"How can I find a programmer who has design skills?"
they wouldn't need your help then, would they?

skt built my website, and I didn't have any of the typical programmer problems with him that I've had with other people. He's a designer too so that helped tremendously. I didn't have to explain to him what a baseline is.
- Okay, who told Skt what a baseline is... come on, own up.********

well you won't find too many intelligent programmers doing that kind of nonsense. That PSD to HTML/Flash conversion should be handled by Adobe, or someone else who makes GUI tools.

Sorry u all and imma let u finish, but I think you don't really get what a programmer is.
What you all explain here is not programming, but scripting. Knowing what my programmers are doing with php, java, c# etc. I really can't say that it is the same as psd to html?
I do both. Design it and convert it and leave the real programming for the programmers. I actually think the opposite!
"Designer who knows good programing!" is the rare thing! Pansies.
p.s. boy I just woke up, need a coffee!

Yeah - coding a HTML file from a PSD is the most boring task you could possibly handle over to an intelligent human being.
You should use one of those websites that do it for $80.Do you not get any feedback from the programmer as to what can or can't be done?
I design and code myself and would find it impossible to design without knowing the possibilities the medium has to offer.

CSS is programming now?
- ahli0
graham is right CSS/HTML isnt coding, any self respecting designer should be able to do this themselves. It gives you a better understanding of what is acheivable, and what sort of deliverables are required. i.e correctly layered PS file and optimised slices etc.
HTML/CSS is piss easy, you are lazy if you dont do it!
- comicsans0
NoFav, you sound like a total wanker. You sit there pissing out a PSD and expect a programmer to do the hard work and convert your scrawlings into a design? All you've done is draw a fucking sketch.
Perhaps your problem is that your programmers wish they had a designer to work with instead of some hack photoshop operator. They're probably good at what they do, it is you that is the problem.
How do people like you get work?
- Stugoo0
And there was me thinking that front end dev's weren't undervalued.
