put it all on the same router on the same subnet, set all machines to use the IP of modem #1 as default gateway, and your machine to use modem #2 as default gateway, no multiple connections necessary.

Yes. Get a router.

modem > router > multiple macs = plug and go

well i think it's a bit more complicated than that, I read it as him wanting to use two different internet connections on the same LAN

Really looking to connect to the internet via the cable modem and use the 2nd ethernet port to connect to the network (this is 'hardwired' to the network and is much faster then connecting to the server through the internet)
My current solution is setting up 2 locations - basically have a fast internet/slow server connection using ethernet port 1 (with port 2 off) and a slow internet/fast server connection utilizing ethernet port 2...switching between the 2 depending on what i need to get done.
- Why would you do this? Makes no sense!duckofrubber
- i kno...haha trying to work on a ass backwards way to fast internet with fast LAN with minimal hassleestetic

you basically need to get it all on one network, then you can specify the cable modem as your gateway to the internet, and get the speed of being on the same LAN as the server, etc..
