We have a small network setup (5 machines, file server, print server and the internet) that tops out around 100 kb/s or bandwidth for all the machines. There is a cable modem hanging out in the back that I can connect to and get around 1.5 megs/s to the internet. When connected via the cable modem I have to access the office network over the internet and its super slow (1mb pdf takes about 1 min to download...) and i cant print (could probally figure this out but its going to be SLOW).
I have 2 ethernet connections on this machine and have 1 plugged into the cable modem and the other connected to the network...is there anyway to get my computer to access the network via 1 ethernet connection and the internet through the other??
Mac G5 running os x 10.4
any help is appreciated...back to googleing...

put it all on the same router on the same subnet, set all machines to use the IP of modem #1 as default gateway, and your machine to use modem #2 as default gateway, no multiple connections necessary.

Yes. Get a router.

modem > router > multiple macs = plug and go

well i think it's a bit more complicated than that, I read it as him wanting to use two different internet connections on the same LAN

Really looking to connect to the internet via the cable modem and use the 2nd ethernet port to connect to the network (this is 'hardwired' to the network and is much faster then connecting to the server through the internet)
My current solution is setting up 2 locations - basically have a fast internet/slow server connection using ethernet port 1 (with port 2 off) and a slow internet/fast server connection utilizing ethernet port 2...switching between the 2 depending on what i need to get done.
- Why would you do this? Makes no sense!duckofrubber
- i kno...haha trying to work on a ass backwards way to fast internet with fast LAN with minimal hassleestetic

you basically need to get it all on one network, then you can specify the cable modem as your gateway to the internet, and get the speed of being on the same LAN as the server, etc..
