Good morning all.
I just moved to a new apartment which is much larger then the last, I have no problem connecting to my airport in the connected rooms but once i start going down the hall to the furthest rooms, the signal goes way down. Is there anyway I can extend the distance or do I need to change anything information within the airport because of my move to make this work better. Any help would be great (no warranty left)

it's a $99 solution, but an airport express will extend the range of your signal. just plug that guy inbetween your extreme and your furthest rooms.

do you have the router in a central location? Just positioning it in the right spot might get you some extra distance.

how big is your apartment? how much distance is it? give some more details about the walls and such ..
MCP is right though .. that works instantly.

I would say it is about 800 square feet and the airport is in the back because the only central location would be a hallway which won't work. To reach the furthest room it has to go through 3 plaster walls. I would rather not buy something because I don't think I would be there long, but if it is the only solution.
- airport express is much more versatile than running cat 5 down the halls. or smashing down some walls :)M_C_P

Adding an Express is a good idea, you can either set it as a part of a WDS or simply tell it to extend the network.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wir…What type of network is it on? Wireless n 5GHz has a smaller range and is more prone to interference than 2.4GHz n (g-compatible)

I guess this isn't a bad price

there are things you can do with what you have... change the channels to find one with less interference and move the base station around. other people's wi fi, microwaves, baby monitors, etc., will all interfere with your signal, just a few feet can make a difference. also, the signal is line-of-sight, so consider the position of things. if you have the base station at one end of a wall, and you're on the other side but on the opposite end of the wall, you're going thru one wall at an angle that makes it 20 feet thick.

2 simplest things to try are placing it in the centre of the apartment and raising it higher off the floor.
I have a pair of adaptors which carry the signal through the mains electrical wiring, I plug one in by the router and one upstairs with a cable to the computer.
Trouble is there are loads of variables so one channel might be best in one position while another is best in another position. Position your router as central as you can then play with channels if need be.

As acescence said, choose a wifi channel as far as possible from other networks in the area. There are channels 1-11 available in the US, try to use one that is two channels away from nearest network if possible (ie if ch2 is taken, use ch4 rather than ch3). Use wifi stumbler software to find out which channels other networks are using. There are free stumblers for iPhone, I think.
