2 simplest things to try are placing it in the centre of the apartment and raising it higher off the floor.
I have a pair of adaptors which carry the signal through the mains electrical wiring, I plug one in by the router and one upstairs with a cable to the computer.
Trouble is there are loads of variables so one channel might be best in one position while another is best in another position. Position your router as central as you can then play with channels if need be.
