Just wanted to share my story. I have a white macbook late 07 edition and the warranty ran out. I started seeing cracks on it recently and apple did the repair for free. While they were replacing the case they also replaced my logic board and speakers.
A few days ago I started seeing cracks on the repaired unit. I called again and they'll repair it again. I sent it in this morning.
I've also called apple today and a nice lady told me that If i have issues again to give her a call and "We will take it from there."
Do you guys think Apple will send me a replacement computer?

They should send you two new computers.

I bought a PC from Best Buy a few weeks ago, got it home, unpacked it, plugged the AC adapter in, and green vomit and pubic hairs spewed out of the the "MIC-in" jack. And the biggest bummer? The damned thing won't even turn on.

No, they'll keep fixing your existing computer, at least that's what they did with my white Ibook. Maybe they've changed their policy with repairs. My last generation Ibook had three motherboards, a new screen, new case top, new CD drive, and new keyboard installed over three years. I was glad that I owned another computer while that it was away.

Yeah, apple is frustrating.
Im in the market for a new computer. So i head into the apple store with my old laptop and the intent to buy an imac.
First of all, no way i can talk to a tech about my old comp. Booked solid. (By the way, no doing reservations at the genius bar over the phone. Only online, which is tough with my broken laptop...) Second of all, they refus to do any transferring of data or migration from old comp to new one unless i sign up for 1on1 service for a neat $90. Not to mention the fact that the comp doesnt come with a firewire cable to migrate. But they will gladly sell me one for $50!
This bullshit, coupled with the fact that it took me almost 20 minutes to talk to someone in the store about how id have to drive home and come back the next day if i wanted to talk to a tech. Totally unapologetic and not even that friendly. Its like some elite fuckin club.
Apple is THE ONLY company i can think of that will send a guy home that was about to fork over 2k.
- /rant. I hope they send you a nice new shiny comp.baseline_shift
- So basically the store was busy?MrT
- Yeah, but i would have known that if it was possible to get someone on the phone before hand. And they wont help with migration after buying a second really expensive computer?baseline_shift

a friend of mine went through hell and back trying to get his machine to work...
... it would turn on... work great for a day or two - the not.
He'd take it in - and it would turn on fine... NO ISSUES... then he'd get it back to the house... it'd work great for the day - the next... nope.
Repeat that about 3 times... nearly a month and a half later Apple authorized him to trade his machine in at the Apple store for a new one.
Meanwhile - it truly effected a couple of his work relationships (including the one he has with me)... simply because Apple wouldn't suck it up and replace their product immediately.

Here in Phoenix we're lucky enough to have a third party repair / upgrade place to goto that is Apple certified... these guys are fast too - they truly care... they don't wear pastel t-shirts that scream 'I'm not here to help... I'm here to sell...'.
If it weren't for the in-town third-party repair place... I'd not have bought a Mac last year because their store and phone customer service is beyond painful.
- Those 3rd party guys are great. The last town i was in had one, and i loved it. No luck here.baseline_shift

yeah i had 3 motherboards replaced in my macbook pro. apple's hardware is FAULTY.
finally sold it on ebay after the last replacement and everything appeared to be working fine. now i'm working on a home built PC running windows XP for awhile.

I've been seriously thinking about moving my Mac to the side and building a machine to run Windows 7... I've heard nothing but good things.

It's just frustrating. Everytime I have to send it in I have to back up my data and wipe my macbook clean. I really can't work like this. I hope that if this happens one more time I can talk them into trading in my white macbook for a new aluminum.
- exactly. that's the fucking pain in the ass of it all. then restoring it when you get it back again.sublocked

if they replaced the logic board, then you've already had a complete new computer as the logic board is one complete computer in the macbook's example. I blew the firewire port and they had to replace the entire circuit board.
try some gaffa tape and carrying it in a http://shinza.com/zeroshock-lapt…

i understand that the logic board is like having a new computer, my issue is not with that. the issue is with my laptop cracking all the time for no reason. I almost never take it anywhere with me. It's always home.

Quite possibly, Apple has fully replaced my laptop more than once... and they weren't afraid to upgrade it either, with whatever newer model had come out since then.
- (as long as it's in the same line; i.e. they wouldn't give you a macbook for an ibook)ismith
- i have a macbook late 07, will they give me the new macbook aluminum?insomnie
- ooh, I dunno. definitely keep talking to them though, maybe ask politely if you could have a refurb aluminumismith
- if it sounds like they don't want to give you one of the new aluminum ones, that isismith
- insomnie0
if i have the late 07 macbook white, will they give me aluminum macbook?
- no.robotron3k
- I'm going to email you something in a sec that may help your causeismith

I have a white macbook from like June, 2008 and it is exhibiting the cracks too.
I thought I wasn't under warranty anymore, but if you are, then I must be too, right? I want an aluminum macbook too!
- His warranty ran out. So did yours. Go to an Apple store and ask them about it anyway, often they are still willing to help.ismith

You should be ok just call apple customer relations they will fix it free. My thing is that I am tired of fixing it all the time. It's spent more time on the road then in my hands. I think at this point it would be cheaper for them to give me a new one, then to keep fixing this shit.
- insomnie0
They are fast already pending return.
