client insists on having the tagline:
"finance stripped down to the basics"
(preferably in a script) on this logo:http://leftwave.com/nt/BBlogos2-…
any ideas on how to make it work? i can't seem to do it without turning the whole thing into one busy mess!

taglines are for ads. a logo with a tagline is lame. taglines in a logo are for dumb, dumb people.
- crap. it's called a positioning statement. granted this loooonngg one is shite.airey
- a brand shouldn't rely on a few words under a logo nobody's going to read, the positioning strategy is ads+pressjimbojones
- it just depends on the branding school of thought.airey
- you're from the 80iesjimbojones
- a logo really shouldn't need anything extra. when you hear nike. what image pops to mind?natelube

try a pitch a few options in the design proposal:
• simply finance
• financial basics
• etc etcbasically the one you've done with 'essentials' looks like a homeware or bathroom product logo. the positioning statement is to convey what they do or their attitude. it could be that their overly long version is just a knee-jerk approach to clarifying who they are when compared to the 'essentials' one.

also, loose the arrow pointing down in the ampersand, it gives nothing but negative connotations and you're only duplicating the concept anyway. cut that and have one arrow pointing up, that way it's symbolising positive growth and not overplaying something that's already been done a billion times.
just my 2 cents.

Wouldn't a down arrow on a wall street type place give off an uneasy feel to a client? I would want to see only up arrows with my money if I was going to invest.
(I am saying this because its called bull & bear, as in markets. if it is not for markets I am sorry)

- BEAR need work, also shift BULL to the right, the & isn't in the middle atmjimbojones
- not even close. this was just 5 minutes to point her in the direction of another font in the first crit thread.TINKLDN

at no stage does a down arrow work in my books. the symbology is simply negative. especially one dealing in or around finance. yes markets go up and down but the down isn't one that you advertise and if you're a market watchdog or a blog tracking the market you want to convey that people reading your views can trust their money / shares / whatever to go up because you know your stuff. the best businesses in the universe go down also at times but nobody advertises that fact.
again, just my 2 cents.

mute point though as bear is already in the name.
"A prolonged period in which investment prices fall, accompanied by widespread pessimism."

with regard to the arrows, there are tons of people who make tons of money shorting stocks, so having them both present is perfectly acceptable.
as for the tag, present the logo as is, and them show them the version locked-up with the tag. specify that the lock-up version is only to be used on certain materials (usually consumer facing promotional items like ads, flyers, etc). a tag should only be used where space prohibits and in the correct context (ie. not stationery). keep the type clean an simple and removed enough from the logo spatially so as not to crowd.

itc lubalin graph is almost exactly the same and the ampersand is considerably nicer.
