HP and NEC seem to be offering a few reasonable options. You can't trust naming schemes, different sizes in a series may be way different construction. Check the panel type here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/pane… look for IPS or PVA/MVA.
TN (6bit) panels are not recommended for colour fidelity.

why do I get the feeling I'm gonna end up spending a lot more than I intended. There's some real nice kit about... too nice! DAMNIT!!

Even the bottom end flats are great, but a little higher up things get very nice indeed!

Newer Dells supposedly don't have the same magic as those from a short while ago... not sure if they switched suppliers, but I have a friend who bought one to replace an older Dell, didn't like the new one as much...

Does anyone have a Dell 2407 and can tell if it's oversaturated like the 2407-HC and 2408 are?

It's not terrifically up to date, but I was looking through this last night and was surprised to see that Dell monitors are still generally the 'best' overall option.

Apple monitors are not worth the premium you pay. Dell monitors are great, and give you nearly equal quality for a lot less. (Quite frankly I can't tell the different between the two).
I've been using a Dell 24" display for a few years now and love it. I would get whatever Dell monitor is in your budget.

Samsung's are where it's at.

a Dell 2007WFP has the same panel as an Apple 20" and can generally be found for less.

Used Apple 20 inch monitors are great if you can calibrate them using a friend's colormunki or similar device.

I have no advice, but this is a good tool for finding monitors by panel type.. http://www.flatpanelshd.com/pane…

I'm looking at getting a new monitor as my cheap as chips little iiyama isn't all that great, especially for print work.
Also I don't have space for a CRT so what would you say are the best flat panels monitors out there that aren't silly money?
Guessing it'll have to be a S-IPS TFT display and I've heard good things about the HP LP2475W.
Can anyone recommend something similar, or better? Really not all that fussed about it being the prettiest monitor in the world. Looking at the quality of the display over anything else.
Cheers
