Awesome new concept for a busines card with Augmented Reality by flash developer James Alliban.

Just needs some glowsticks. Ravers unite!!!!
Awesome stuff. I love AR, want to start getting into it.

Kind of wish he didn't make those faces and wave his hand at the end.

someone should offer him up a little design help on that card though...

What am I seeing here?
Is this the same technology you've got with webcams for years where you can film yourself and onscreen you see it snowing on you or you can have a silly nose, glasses or interact with a ball bouncing about.

Am I missing something, this seems kinda lame

at first I thought this was a pretty good usage of the tech (the card tells a little more about him and what he does) ... but then after some thought, I realized that if you need to go to his website (where this info is already) to see this ... then it kind of defeats the purpose.
a cool concept / gimmick that i'm sure potential clients of his would love though.
- plus you need a web cam.... and you need to change your flashplayer settings to allow flash access to it.monNom

I don't, tbh

this ar stuff is only truly interesting when you can remove the necessity of navigating to a specific url. ar on iphone would be interesting. i recently worked with a digital art exhibition that picked up the code on badges given out to passers by via a camera in a shopfront and then projected the animation life-size back to them. that was pretty neat.
- sounds creepydoesnotexist
- i pitched it on iphone initially, but it wasn't video capable then. i'll make sure one gets done on an iphone now that we have 3.0scarabin

^ Still requires something.
Agreed though. All of this stuff is just e-boner for design shops to talk about. Until my Mom and Dad can use without printing something, going to a site, or using a phone, none of this really matters to anyone besides geeks and 2.0 bullshitters.

It fits a very very niche corner of a market right now. I'll truly be blown away when the technology can be integrated real time with a GPS to supply turn by turn navigation, or show info bubbles over landmark buildings, for example, in a car that has an AR capable OLED windshield or something.
Just thinking out loud.
Until then, I'll keep thinking out loud while trying to learn what it's all about piece by piece so that when the time comes that this shit is revolutionary, I know how to talk about it with half a brain.
