is it still true, that finder gets slow when there are large files on the desktop?
- mikabast0
try it?

hmm, good point. but maybe anyone tried before?

it might be slower every so often because of the live file previews so it has to open the file to create the preview, but I'm pretty sure once they're done they are cached, but also I don't think it bothers trying to preview files over 700meg

Never leave files on the desktop... all those transparency effects have to take every file into account. Keep them in a folder if you have to, it's only a split second more to open it.

Yeah, carbon-based Finder sucks on OS X pre Snow Leopard, try to keep your desktop clean, it'll help boot time.
On Snow Leopard it has been rewritten with Cocoa and it's fucking fast.

So far as I know it is not large files per se but lots of icons on your desktop will certainly slow things down
