first one too much of everything, second one is perverted

play with the degree symbol; it's lovely and easy to make elegant... ; )... Perhaps you can mimic the negative space in the top of the 8 with the size of the degree symbol...???

I hate to say it, but just a thin vertical line at 118°, perhaps intersecting an equally svelte circle, although a bit Scandinavian-minimalist cliche, might be quite a good direction to trot down for a wee while?

you are making it too hard on yourself and the co' potential clients wanting to look at the logo for only a few seconds and identify it.
brilliance in a logo is not in it's complicated structure or added nonsensical shapes. it's in the way it communicates firmly and strongly!

- maybe too abstractversion3
- this could work as a mark.Corvo2
- didn't sony had a "D" like that. yeah on the walkman. stuff.akrokdesign

What does "118 Degrees" refers to? Is it an ideal cooking temp? A door number? Or just a random name? You could use what it means to enhance the logomark instead of just looking for a nice typographical effect.
If you think of a logo as a sculpture you can use that Aristotle allegory of the stone block: the statue is already there, you just have remove the parts that do not belong to it.

i was thinking the same thing corvo, rare is 120º to 125º so maybe this is all raw
- version30
- inspired by nairnversion3
- i used the horizon as 0ºversion3
- definitely, a piece where every element is at 118º in relation to each other will have an interesting result.Corvo2
- needs more FOCAL POINT! lol.akrokdesign
- needs to POP MORE! lol.akrokdesign
- make logo BIGGER. lol.akrokdesign

i think the 118 degrees name gives you a lot of options to play with but you want to keep it subtle and not too abstract. although the above might work for a club night, i don't think it suits a restaurant very well.
here is a simple idea, modifying the G so that it is acting as a cooker dial turned to 118 degrees whilst maintaining readability.
- looks like 118 deqrees to mewrong
- interesting, but the G turns into a Q a bit, does it not?Corvo2
- fair point. hard to judge when you already know what the word is meant to be. i guess you would need to test it.TINKLDN
- is that rotated 28 degrees to the right?version3
- following that option maybe the G needs a vertical spin to the left since lowest temps are set by turning the button...Corvo2
- to the lowest counter-clockwise point.Corvo2
- also in ovens, 118 degrees is marked on the lower left of the panel.Corvo2
- I think Tink was using a vertical axis, v3.Corvo2
- yeah, it is 118 from the top. assuming the full circle is 360, not 400 or 450 as on a cooker.TINKLDN
- anyway, just an idea.TINKLDN
- eerm. i meant lower right, not lower left (in ovens). In most cooking plates buttons turn ccw.Corvo2

all food served at the restaurant is a vegan, all organic and raw restaurant. 118 degrees is the temp. at which the food can be heated up to without losing its vital nutrients.

my job blocks twitter and twitpic - can someone put them on tinypic or something i want to get in on this action

lots of meaningful keywords in your explanation:
restaurant = room, space, etc
vegan (= thin, fit, green)
organic (= connected elements, etc)
raw ( not to far fetched? schematic?)
118 degrees is the LIMIT temp (=don't use warm colours)
nutrients (... can't associate anything with this right now...).
