Yeah. Kids are stupid and lack the ability to judge movies. Through life we learn to appreciate and get better and judging. I doubt anyone is ever perfect at it, but kids are especially bad.
I loved "The Wizard" and "Rad" as a kid, but there's no defending those movies in an adult context. Years later, I loved movies like Fight Club and The Sixth Sense but I'm now realizing they are mediocre works.

I would say Ramesh Sippy who directed the classic "Sholay" starring Amitabh Bachan and Dhamindra.
This film is particularly noteworthy because it teamed up two of Indian cinemas biggest stars and rivals for the first time. You can really see the tension between them on screen as they vie for the right to be called the "action man of India".
And also Amjed Khan in the film is a sight to behold with his characteristic belly laugh, as he plays the most dastardly of villains!
Two thumbs up!

I'd say Kubrick, because he managed to create almost the 'perfect/definitive' film in any genre he worked in, going from Spartacus to 2001, Full Metal Jacket to Barry Lyndon, The Shining to Lolita, Dr Strangelove.
- What genre would you put Lyndon, Lolita and Strangelove in?Khurram

Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock and Sidney Lumet are classics.
If you want more recent films (which you shouldn't, because the oldies are usually better) you should check out David Gordon Green. He's a great director, but seems to only put his best effort in when it's a movie he has written himself. Start with George Washington, which is arguably his best. All The Real Girls and Snow Angels are also fantastic.
I'm also a big fan of Noah Baumbach, but more for his writing than directing. There Will Be Blood by Paul Thomas Anderson is great achievement in directing, see that for sure.
And if you haven't seen Synecdoche, New York by Charlie Kaufman yet, then you're missing out on what is likely the best American film of the decade.

you've all forgotten about Uwe Boll

Mark Herman... The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas got to me despite the english accents that were sooo out of place.
Emotionally jarring - exactly as it should have been. I rarely see an entire audience sit through credits without a sound being made.
