17mm at aps-c crop is not wide... buy some 10-24 lens or go fullframe and buy sigma 12-24

if you looked at her through the large end she would appear to be very very very small. but still hot.

I shot this series using the 16-35 II. It's a great lens:

The 17-40L will give you better perspective than the 10-22, I have both and the 10-22 distorts quite a lot :o)

thanks Jay. do you own it? or are you a NIkon guy
I was going to get the 70-200 f4 L SI
but I am thinking I will miss the extra stop more often than not. so I am going to wait until I can afford the 2.8

Hey guys! Quick question...
Need to rent a macro lens to shoot our prototype's tiny piece/part for a brochure and possibly booth. I got two options, Canon 100mm / f2 Macro or Canon 50mm / f1.4 Macro.
Which one would you recommend?
info: Tiny white part on black bg... Thanks!!- easy, the 100m. the 50mm isn't a true macro lens.jaylarson
- apparently there is a f/2.5 that is 1:4

I have Sigma 10-20mm F4.0-5.6 EX DC HSM.
I use it on my 400D. It's a nice playful lens. And it's build pretty solid.

does anyone own the 24-70 2.8 L
i was wondering if the lack of IS was a big deal?
and what do you mostly use it for?

I've used the 24-70 with a 5D mark I, 5D mark II and 30D....
I've used this lens for:
1. situations where you DON'T control everything, i.e. weddings, corporate events
2. sitautions where you DO control everything, i.e. studio shoots, ad shoots where you have a crew and lights....For the 5D mark II, the AF at 70mm F2.8 is sometimes slightly off when I shot weddings and corporate events, I'd shoot 3 and 1 would be slightly out of focus if the room was dark.... the red AF assist light on the flash helped, but people do notice that red light...
For setup shots where you control everything, it's a great lens....
The AF was almost as good as my lovely old Canon 85mm F1.8, the nicest AF I've ever used....
Very nice, and no I didn't miss the IS much, I'd rather have 2.8 and no IS, than F4 and IS.. as subject movement was an issue for me....
Note that this lens DOES give some wide-angle barrel distortion, and doesn't focus as close as I'd like, but the AF is great and smooth. The 70mm bokeh is good at F2.8, but sometimes I wish it was slightly longer... the 30D with this lens was a joy for me, as it was likea 35-105... nice for me, but yes, I did love the 24mm on the 5D....
In comparison, the 24mm F2.8 prime had less barrel distortion, but also slightly less contrast than this zoom...
have fun! I now shoot mostly nikon, as my ecosystem of friends shoot nikon, and I had some AF in the dark issues that made me switch.. long story, no religious wars, but that's my experience...

The 70-200 F2.8 IS is a GEM, except for an AF quirk....
The 5D mark II seemed in my experience to have not quite perfect AF at F2.8 at close distances, wheras the 5D mark I seemed to almost always give me correct focus at F2.8 at close distances....
I've used the 70-200 F4 from a friend... it's a VERY nice lens, and much lighter/smaller/less crazily attention getting,etc...
and no AF issues in my experiences....

Thanks guys! couldn't get the 16-35 but got the 24-70 instead, and really liked it, although I ended up hating my camera because I also shot with a 5d MkII/50 and 70/20 and fell in love! In case you guys are wondering what to get me for Christmas, ^here's your tip;)
I'll post some shots when I get a chance to get some feedback!
