acer 1 is a good unit. wifi drops out occasionally needing a reboot, but other than that, really good.

For portability and basic Office apps/Internet the netbooks seemed really nice. I've only tried them from coworkers... but for the pricepoint they're awesome. A macbook air is a waste of time at the pricepoint.

Couple a links to Apple possibilities.

I have the msi wind - does the job. Larger keyboard than the dell mini.

the lenovo is the best one i've tried out. HP is a close second. haven't tried the dell hands on.

I've played around with the small acer ones (10"), was thinking about getting one for surfing the net in the living room.
At $350 (cnd), it's a pretty decent deal.

Using an Acer One right now. Have had it about 4 months and love it. Carrying it on the road for simple email, surfing, and for some programs. It's runs XP Home and I have Open Office running on it just fine. 160GB Hard Drive, 1GB Ram - $300.00! It saves wear and tear on my 'tool box' configured laptop, extending it's possible life. Also works great on the airplane tray table, instead of a bigger one. Can't go wrong in my opinion.

They had the Acer and HP at the shop. Same price and identical specs. Need something now, and Acer was out of stock, so HP it was. So far, totally great for a $300 machine, exactly what we need.

I've seen MSI Winds, Acer Aspires, HP Minis, Toshiba NB100s, and although the HP doesn't have the best specs it looks the money and performs quite well.
There are some Atom mainboards coming out soon that will have NForce chipsets on them, making these puppies graphically a lot more powerful. There are some out that have 3G modules built in as well, which is excellent now that 3G data is slowly dropping in price.
The best one i've seen was a 9" tablet one of my lawyer mates uses, a Fujitsu P1630. Sadly it's more like $3000, not $300.

I forgot to mention, some of them advertise what percentage size of a normal keyboard the device uses. You seriously want to get the biggest keyboard you can. The smaller ones, particularly the NB100 I tried, were insanely annoying to type on.

Just like Lukus, I have a Samsung NC10... I fucking love it.
It's pretty damned fast considering the size, and the battery lasts forever. I seriously leave it unplugged for up to 10 hours and it remains at 80%.
Also upgraded to 2gigs of ram, but I bought it from NewEgg.
