Wicked thanks guys appreciate it - dunno If I can afford this thing, why did I buy a nikon d40 a year or so back! argh
any suggestions for a middle of the range HD video camera, that could come close to this sort of quality?
- The thing with the 5d is what you can do with the lenses etc, so hard to compare.Jnr_Madison
- true, well thanks manblackspade
- I think Nikon are coming out with one that records in HD too, which will be cheaper, not sure how soon tho.Jnr_Madison
- bump this tomorrow when it's busy, someone should be able to recommend something better than I can.Jnr_Madison

That was a nice marketing "trick" by Canon with the 5D and that HD video shoot with the photographer. I think it fooled practically everyone to actually believe a $3000 camera could shoot HD video as good as they so effectively PR'd here last year http://gizmodo.com/5050819/canon…
The 5D uses a nice big CCD chip, but the real secret is the $50,000+ worth of Canon lenses that were used on the shoot. The Canon L series, you can tell my the red line around the lens.
So really there would not be a HD camera on the market that could be comparable and nobody with a brain would buy a 5D and expect to shoot HD and get anywhere close to that video going around. So you might look at the H30, it's HD and people seem to like it and it's only around $600 bucks and tiny.
- that's a hell of set. :-)akrokdesign
- those lenses...
*fap fap fap*VectorMasked - you mean HV30? I got one, really really nice.kingsteven

While I agree with robotron3k that the video Canon released is misleading due to the sheer amount of high end lenses and lighting used it doesn't change the fact that eventually film and video cameras will merge into one. The 5D being the first shaky steps in this direction.
Having said that the Nikon D90 and Canon T1I only cost around a grand with a kit lens and can produce great results. Dirt cheap if you think about it.
- I think the mount on the front of the SUV was more expensive than the camera itself...robotron3k

But the Nikon doesn't shoot in the HD that the Canon does, which isn't a big deal given the price, but still a much lesser quality.
Personally, I'll buy the next Nikon that comes out to compete with the 5D (D800 or D900 or something like that).
