atheism is the new fad,
like every trend it will come and pass, I'm not religious in the normal terms that defines it,
but if you asked me if I believe in a god, I'll answer yes without even doubting it, you don't need videos to prove your point if you actually sure about what you're implying,
dawkins is interesting and obviously a very intelligent man, but he doesn't hold the keys to ultimate knowledge.
there's no difference in following him or Jesus or Mitra or zoroastro or horus or diana or appollo or vishnu or hermes or "god".
you're still following a trend and can't prove why the other side is wrong.now where's your god.
I may even assume that the majority of atheist defenders here believe in the "libero arbitrio" so I don't see the need to argue.- this fad has been going on since the enlightenment period, before that the church was in control of the books.zarkonite
- what does it has to do with the thing I wrote, stop thinking the catholic church is the only bringer of lightGeorgesII
- Sorry for giving you this impression, this box doesn't let me say all I want =) press on the chill button.zarkonite

who has the best non-god theory?

I don't claim to be an atheist or agnostic for that matter. Which is probably shocking to some of you on here cough, cough...
I do believe in a higher power. BUT.... With that said I think we have it all wrong. I think our minds are just not capable yet to be able process something on that level.
I also believe that organized religion (all of them) is a total farce and contrived to benefit peoples own agendas. I mean C'mon, do some research. But if it is your thing, cool. Keep it to yourself and don't force it down my throat.
- my mind is. I just think its a lack of respect to talk about something we will never get a grasp on,GeorgesII
- i mostly agree with all of this. well said7point34
- Yeah, I try to keep my beliefs to myself. It's hard not to see there is a bigger picture. But what that is, is way to grand for us humans.********
- us humans.********
- organized religion is man-made and has faults just as much as man-made atheism or politics. Interesting why Christianity is always the sole trash can for culture of mod artsphilipdrumman

Yeah right, like posting the proof in QBN will solve the mistery...
People don't believe in God because they think they know everything, but in a real spiritual quest you are not going to find just a proof, but you are going to live and experience for yourself. But don't worry you can still hope that science will be with you and solve all your mysteries...

is god a scientologist?
- bump790
That is doubtful CALLES, we already know that scientology exists.

- and he did die, so as far as christianity is concerned his story checks out7point34

It really is bizarre to see how "Teleos" pops up only when a thread about God is posted, but also every single time a thread about God is posted.

fact vs. belief
know the difference
- well...not really true. facts are theories and not all are proven. you basically have faith vs. faithzenmasterfoo

factsikma - oh. ok. sigh...zenmasterfoo
- yep. that's what it really comes down to.sikma
- Okay, speaking in only facts sikma, please explain to me how the universe came to be?designbot
- Everyone exercises faith, the question everyone should ask when not dealing in concrete terms (verifiable facts) is where does the evidence point?designbot
- does the evidence point.designbot

If anyone is REALLY interested, here was a pretty good lecture by Professor John Gray on the "New Athiests", who he considers pretty much lightweights by the historical standards of athiesm. The download link is on here:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol…
Listened to it on my commute home last week, and I enjoyed it.
Also recommend his book, "Black Mass: Apocalyptic Religion and the Death of Utopia". Good shit.
- thats an awesome d'l thanks, tbo - I eat this stuff up. I must have 200+hrs of podcasts like this. Link of the day, ftw, lol etcmikotondria3

Dogmatic ideologies are divisive and dangerous. I'm less concerned with "disproving god" (I put that in scare quotes because god(s) have never been proven in the first place) and more concerned with the practical effects of embracing such dangerous beliefs. Defending books in which a supposedly omnipotent god issues direct orders to kill people for various reasons, even from the stance of a moderate, is giving intellectual shelter to literalists and effectively promoting tribal, sectarian violence.
Why, for any reason would you defend a position of ignorance and fight the rational and scientific pursuit of knowledge? It's impossible to be religious and not stand in opposition to at least some degree of scientific gain because in being so you make certain claims about the nature of the universe that are devoid of evidence.
It's misguided to posit hypothetical scenarios in which all current scientific laws are disproved, because it's the fact that science seeks to question above all rather than offer answers as religion does that makes is superior guide upon which to base our decisions.
I think it's valuable to point out that religion is not the only kind of dogmatic ideology that plagues the world, nationalism has been responsible for much bloodshed as well.- I always forget to double up those line breaks, sorry for the wall of text!BRNK

"Okay, speaking in only facts sikma, please explain to me how the universe came to be?"
Bit more complicated than my little brain can handle/explain.
But it doesn't mean that there isn't a factual explanation of the universe out there.
- I have a close friend who happens to be an atheist and we often discuss this very topic. The end result it always that we both realize we can't prove our beliefs.designbot
- we both realize we can't prove our side. Basically proving that we both have faith in our own conclusion based on evidence.designbot
- the key point here is that even my atheist friend (and most athiests) who look to science for all the answers will admit they take certain liberties and apply faith.designbot
- they take certain liberties and apply faith.designbot
- looking to science for answers?!? dude that's religious. Science is simple, you either know or you don't.zarkonite
- extrapolating past your "proof" is called a theory. Learn the scientific method you'll see it has NOTHING to do with faith.zarkonite
