Wow, there must be something in the damn water here at QBN, I had to go to the ER last week also because of another fucking stone!!
Pain began at work and I thought it would go away, by the time I realized it was a stone I was already in pain and left to the hospital. I got three hit three times with morphine or whatever they use and spent a whole day throwing up and recovering from it. Oh, and I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday waiting for the bitch to pass, and it finally happened sunday night.

I had one two years ago, seriously the worst pain ever.
I twisted my torso like a "golf stretch" and all of a sudden got a horrible pain in my lower left side, thought i pulled a muscle.
I ended up throwing up and writing in pain for an hour before I decided it was time to go to the hospital. Went inot th the ER at 10pm and only got to see a doctor at 5am, and the people there couldn't diagnose what it was (ps this is CANADA, not a third world country, but i'm sure health care would be better elsewhere anyways). So this pain went on for 5 days, and I was taking 3 Motrin's every 4 hours around the clock. Three doctors later, the third doctor that I saw told me to get to an emergency room immediately, as there other doctors brushed off what I had as "backache" and to take a tylenol. Only after I forcibly made the second doctor allow me to take a urine test to prove to him that it was more fucked up than he thought, that he referred me to the third doctor. He was doctOWNED.
After this, I ended up taking two IVP tests where they inject a glow in the dark dye into your system so that they could take special x-rays to see if there were any blockages in my system that they found out it was a stone. This test also dislodged the stone from the kidney so the pain went away.
2 weeks later I ended up passing the stone itself on a night of drinking at a bar!
I wouldn't wish this shit on anyone!
- HA I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GOT RID OF IT AT THE BAR!nicole_marie

You think the health system in Canada is poor, try the NHS here in the UK...
It's now been months (end of Feb) since I first went to my GP complaining of pain with my system. I've since been lost in the mirk of paperwork and having to wait weeks and weeks between actually seeing someone who can help.
If I had the cash, I'd have gone private a long time ago...
- You pro-socialized health care Americans hearing this?designbot
- that is so screwed, i cannot believe people who do not already deal with this want to switch. i hope you get in soon NJA!nicole_marie
- yeah, hope you can get in soon!designbot
- thanks guys! here's hoping to an uneventful next 4 weeks!Not_Just_Another

^^ I went in to the ER at the same time as an old lady who had burned both of her arms badly, came in by ambulance, and only saw a doctor like 7 hours later as we all sat in the waiting room.
I can believe you, the public health care system is garbage (at least where I am) as most doctors flee to the US or other provinces.

The worst pain I have ever had was an infected (absessed) tooth. I wanted to take a gun to my head it was so bad...wonder if this is worse?
- OSFA0
That sounds pretty nasty too, but I don't know if it can compare to stones pain. For those of you who have never been through this, IT IS HELL!!!
- Hopefully there are things you can do to avoid getting them again?designbot
- drink lots of water evidently. But I've found out some of it is hereditary. so lets hope it doesnt run in your families!Not_Just_Another
- *says prayer :)designbot
- I think you might avoid soda as well as they can cause stones....that's what happen to my father in law too much cola.designbot
- yeah, definitely cola, also foods with lots of calcium.OSFA

^ I've certainly found that my dignity has been lost on several occasions due to stones. Take the hospital trip for example, first time I've cried (in pain) in front of a room full of people.
Second more embarrassing example is one of a few weeks ago. My fiance and I were driving back from her folks (about a 4hr drive) and I began feeling a little worse for wear. I tried hard to grin and bear it, and some of you know that you can't exactly stop on the M25, but I managed to make it to Reading services so I could take a break.
I must have been past the point of no return, because I was now feverish, nauseous, and to the point where I could barely walk.
By this point my fiance had called for the paramedics. They took almost 40mins to arrive (they got lost on the M4). When they arrived, they found that the only way I could cool myself down was to strip to my boxers and lie on the tiled for of the disabled toilets... (told you my dignity had gone)
The only way I've been told I can move my op forward is to have another episode and to go into my local hospital and be treated as an emergency case...
I would not wish this on anyone.
Remember kids, drinks lots of water! :-)
- That sounds awful. This happened from a kidney stone?designbot
- Yep, unless they find something else god awful when they start prodding around inside my fella in a few weeks.Not_Just_Another
- not good.Not_Just_Another

hahaha, I hear you man, the first time I got stones I was in New York, and the paramedics had to pick me up at my hotel room since I was in excruciating pain (kicking, crying and screaming) They put me on a ghetto ass stretcher and had to scream at me to 'man up' Ha!
I was crying and bitching in pain the whole ride down the hall and elevator, but the worst was when we got to the lobby, everyone in the hotel bar was like WTF? This was a friday night :( and we couldn't pass fast enough because there was a convention taking place PLUS about 10-15 flight attendants that were registering.
Good times!

anyone have pain inside their abdomen after passing it?
i feel sore inside like under my ribcage on the left side days later.
- OSFA0
Yeah, I guess in some cases that's normal. I guess the stones scratch the crap put of your kidneys and organs and that's the pain you feel for days... I still have it.

I had when when I was a small kid from bad dehydration. It was small enough that it passed itself on the way to the ER... but I remember being in crazy pain from that small thing, shaking all over when I tried to pee... can't imagine a large one.

I had a kidney stones two years ago, what hell. Lipotripsy did not work, 3 surgeries later, internal bleeding, and passing out from the immense pain they finally removed them. I would not wish kidney stones on my worst enemy!
- eek, that's sounds awful! Have you had them since?Not_Just_Another

where did the pain originate .. was it a soreness in the lower back left side? but you can only feel it when you sneeze or when you breathe deep.
cause that's what I'm feeling right now and this thread scares the jebus out of me
- pain in lower back, groin, balls and little fella... can be one of these or all...Not_Just_Another
- maybe you've cracked a rib? it might be muscle-related if it hurts when you stretch to sneeze/breathe..Not_Just_Another

For gall stones, soaking in a hot bath/hot tub eases the pain a lot. I'm not sure if it does the same for kidney stones.
- Heat has been my enemy... lying on an cold floor helps numb my pains.Not_Just_Another
- wow really? I remember often getting chills during an attack. (mine was gall stones tho)mayo
