I've heard the way those pilots handle that 747 is unbelievable. A friend of mine from Virginia was talking about seeing them practicing landing/takeoff exercises. Said you would never imagine it was possible to bank something like that so hard and see it accelerate so quickly at the same time.

nobody was crying. and only the Post (and other right wingers—drudge, etc.) who love to see Obama fuck up are making it in to a huge more than 8 hr. story. --we're gonna keep hearing about in from fox I guarantee.)
I think some folks who saw it (not me--) were a little freaked out. that's all. and rightfully so.
the fuggin "freedom tower" festers cause no one's buying the real estate.

Okay, I agree with you in general (cannonball) but I don't think it's relevant here. A 747, flying FUCKING low, over the city where planes don't normally go, followed closely by an F16 and maneuvering on a deliberate path is pretty fucking unusual. Sure, with the right view you could probably tell it wasn't just any commercial airliner but from underneath, just walking down the street, that's a pretty huge WTF moment.

ismith has a point. We've got Nellis A.F.B. right outside our city limits and I'll be damned if you don't hear/see fighter planes and copters running their exercises over the valley at any given time of day.

I'd say it's been made relevant by the knee-jerk parallels with airliner and skyscrapers everyone's made (that need to be re-established).
"Oh how could you dare fly over NYC shame on you!!!"
(No one gets pissed when it's the blue angels blowing out everyones eardrums.)
I think that specific incident actually goes a long way to revert people's perceptions of the airspace, and their safety back to reality.
- the reality being: stop being pussies about loud noises********
- oh c'mon. the handheld camera shot had an old lady's voice on on it. and she wasn't crying. she was just freaked out.krisscott21
- and usually people knowingly go to see the blue angels.krisscott21

- Obama fucked up. we're NEVER going to hear the end of this.krisscott21

a plane that large, flying that low, followed by a jet, over any major city will cause a stir. this ain't the fucking blue angels flying over the corn fields of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, whether you want to try and make that comparison or not.
- Point50
LOLz, FOXNEWS.com makes it look like a fucking UFO! “let's put a highlight circle focusing on the plane so it look ominous and menacing!”
This sounds like a failure at a local level to me. People should have been informed. And I love that the White House has apologize for flying a fucking plane. I have yet to hear an apology for this economic toilet they've put us in.

OMG THE PRESIDENT FLEW OVER NYC WHAT THE FUCK
- you scareded us. stay the f outta our airspace, you... president...********

The police were warned in advance, but they (the Dept of Def) decided not to publish it. i can only imagine for security reasons.
The reason i heard it took place was a "photoshoot". i think that's a load of crap. Seems more like a tactical exercise. Probably never know what was really up. And if someone told us the truth, we probably wouldn't believe them anyway. Such is the relationship between govt and the governed. </conspiracy theory>
But i kinda get where cannonball is coming from. From the perspective of someone outside of NYC, there seems like a great deal of hypersensitivity to it. Not that people shouldn't have been wary of what was going on. But the level of indignation seems a bit overblown. What harm was really done to the average person?

I'm not really jiving with the notion that the public needs a fucking announcement about planes flying overhead. They don't even need that.
That's like — "this just in: police might use their guns if there is a dangerous criminal".
Or — "warning: the people are driving fast on the highway and it might scare you"
The skittish public gets no leeway in the matter IMHO. Just get over being scared.
- "Announcement: There might be a plane flying overhead thats noisy." See? It's stupid.********
- more like "Warning: gunshots will be fired into the sky downtown for a military photo op"ismith

I stay in the flight path of the planes that do fly-by's at sports events at murrayfield or when the military tattoo is on at the castle.
try sitting in your living room chilling when a plane flies over breaking the sound barrier - boom!
now THAT's "not normal".
thats when you really shit yourself, and not when you see a plane flying by your city!
- GeorgesII0
anyone remember cloverfield. April 27 was the last normal day in NY because you see something dropped in the water than a month later May 22th the monster appears and wreck New York-

I hate my memory, always remember stupid things

I'd be more worried about the guy at the next desk going postal than a plane flying into me. Face it, you're more likely to be murdered by your brother-in-law, or your cousin, than to have a plane fly into you.
Besides, don't be a fucking pussy about airplanes flying overhead in the 21st century. I see airplanes flying all the time, and I don't let it bother me. Because I'm brave.
