I'd say it's been made relevant by the knee-jerk parallels with airliner and skyscrapers everyone's made (that need to be re-established).
"Oh how could you dare fly over NYC shame on you!!!"
(No one gets pissed when it's the blue angels blowing out everyones eardrums.)
I think that specific incident actually goes a long way to revert people's perceptions of the airspace, and their safety back to reality.
