Check out cnet.com for reviews and even the cheapest place to buy online. I was about to buy a Canon Rebel XS from B&H but found it WAY cheaper thru cnet.
- just make sure you check out the consumer reviews and the BBB! there are some shady business practices out there.lvl_13
- a lot of places selling for ridiculously low prices are most likely scams or try and rope you into buying "kits". don't.lvl_13
- cheaper than B&H?
sounds fishy to me....sikma - Well it was thru Amazon so I figured I was safe. Cnet is good though, good reviews...editor and user.business_mouse

Nikon D70's are cheap too... one nice feature: 500th flash sync in manual mode. If you're into off-camera flash in daylight, this can be quite a lifesaver...

Nikon D40x body is on sale for $270...

note to buyer, you have more of a "photographer's experience" once you begin using higher end lenses, which if purchased, become the bulk of your investment.

version3's right, I'd recommend a 50mm lens, no matter which camera you get, the prime (non-zoom) lenses deliver pro quality without $1200 price tags. You do have to zoom with your feet though....

Been out all weekend playing around with the new camera - shot some "light trails" on the main road around dusk and sat in the park shooting the local cricket team - ace fun.
Now looking at lenses and having to take some deep breathes after looking at prices... my god this this is an expensive hobbie!
Thanks again for all the advice.
