I've never been to Portland but I know some people who live there for about 20 years...they always talk about how bad the weather sucks.
Guess it's ok if you can handle lots of rain.

^Well you should start looking for jobs there (Portland) right away....I recall a few recent posts on here saying the job market there is total shit. I remember before the recession I was checking out Portland and it seemed horrible for creative jobs. Either way, I'm sure you can get out there it you really try....just give yourself plenty of time and be sure you have something lined up. Good luck regardless of where you decide to move ( It seems you have been talking about getting out of Chicago for awhile...which is probably a sure sign you should move :)

Don't move to Portland it's horrible... rains every single day... absolutely nothing to do, and there's no beer either... it's got a horrible music and art scene... it's really bad if you like the outdoors, and mass transit sucks... no good places to eat...
