Personally, I think the email to him was wrong from the get go. There are more professional ways of replying to his unsolicited emails. Throwing 'penis enlarger' in there also sounds like you're saying he has a small dick and a uniball (okay maybe I'm making shit up. Maybe not. Hmmm). He definitely took it to offense and retaliated. That's for sure. And by all means does he have the work to back it up and he can probably do what he says he can do. Your coworker may want to apologize for the brash email. He took it a bit too far as well. 'Penis Enlarger' to a man is like 'Cunt tightener' to a girl. Okay maybe I'm making more shit up. Never burn your bridges.

    both parties over-reacted.

but i really liked the 'unintended' inclusion of the signature in the original post. nice touch..

The email was wrong from the get go? The spam was wrong from the get go! Of course the email was unprofessional, but the spam is beyond that.

I can't believe the photographer ripped on the coworker's "attitude" while simultaneously insulting him repeatedly, from his intelligence to his locale. He even threatens with an in-person encounter sometime in the future.

The "penis enlargement" comment wasn't a personal attack on a physical attack on the photographer, it was just an observation on unsolicited spam. This photographer is the one who needs an attitude adjustment and the one who should be apologizing for his reaction.

i don't rate his work - all his women look sweaty.
so he shoots for vogue, and is based in nyc - big deal
so do lots of other douchebags

i think your colleague (sorry cowworker) touched a nerve...

  • Tungsten0

Your co-worker and the photographer were both really unprofessional. They just needed to ignore the e-mail. Or block from sender.

You can't fault the guy for trying to find work. Specially these days.

    • With a folio like that I'd be happy to get mail from him.zarkonite

all this utter whiney crap about boohoo vogue this and boohooo fucking prestigious that... boohooo

you know that an average vogue cover model gets paid 150 - 250 dollars only? fucking shit talk about prestige is utter sad whiney crap for people who have low self esteem.

i don't care who or whatever shit i work for as long as i get paid.

the rest can go cry and snort coke in their sad wee upper circles.

    fucking aging hipsters.

Spam from penis enlargers, Nigerian lotteries, and Viagra are one thing. Getting an email from someone in your own field is another. Are you really getting 'that' many unsolicited emails from designers and photographers that it's causing that many problems, and to the point where you call it spam? Let's be serious. I send out emails to my contacts when I update my site once a year or every 10 years for that matter. I'm sure a lot of other people who work for themselves here do too. Now if I were getting an email from this guy every few hours for an entire year -- yeah, I'd be pissed and call him a spammer too. How many of these emails did this guy actually send? If you don't want emails from the guy and if he's sending you 'that' many emails, can't you just block his email address? I get emails from agencies and studios all the time whenever they update their site or want to promote something or even when they just want to say hi. I didn't ask for them. Okay, here's a scenario. Let's say he sent you a Christmas card. Said "Merry Xmas from Photo Dude. Best Wishes. www.photo-dudes-site.com". Are you going to send the card back and say "Fuck You! I didn't ask for this card. I'm fucking Jewish". No, you'll probably say "Oh, that was nice. Little baby Jesus is so cute". This is the same thing, except it's through email. Maybe not. Hmm.

Yeah a good photographer shouldn't have to lower themselves to the level of spam. But they do!! What do you suggest he do instead of email promos? Photographers have been sending out promo cards for decades and e-mail promotions are really no different. They are about 5"/7" they have the photographers name, contact info and a picture. E-mail and snailmail promos are an established industry medium for promotions. Maybe you don't want your inbox inundated with photographers e-mails but would you rather have your desk covered with them like back in the day. I knew an editor at magnum in the eighties and she would get hundreds of actual physical postcards on her desk every week and it was her job to look through them. Do you know why? Because that way she could find the best photographers for the job. I assume that you are get these e-mails because you hire photographers from time to time? Well aren't you interested in hiring a good one? Its not like he was trying to sell you a bean pie or porn! No, you buy pictures and he sells pictures! Shame on him for having the nerve to think you might like to buy his pictures! Would you prefer it if every person who wanted show their work called you directly we could do that you know. I am sure that would get old pretty quick too. No this spam/email promo is actually better isn't. Its simple, quick, easy to opt out of, takes up zero space, its green for %#$@ sake and it only takes up as much time as you want it to. If you don't like it opt out or trash it but the personal attack is just low. His response is appropriately impassioned and masking an understandable hurt. Welcome to the digital age "reach out and shit on someone" why don't you.

i agree with hunterwillis, well somewhat, it doesn't seem like spam, if you don't want to receive it anymore just unsubscribe i don't see why it's considered spam. shit, we are working on an email publication right now.

  • sikma0

well if anyone needs a sweaty model photographed against a plain white background look no futher

  • fate_0

Photographers deserve about 5% of the credit they actually try to ascribe to themselves from taking a photo.

Most of AKOS photos are made beautiful thanks to good Makeup Artists, the Wardrobe & Designers, and probably an Art Director who is the actual vision and imagination behind the work.

    • couldn't agree more.lvl_13
    • depends on the shot, but in his case i agree. there's very little going on other than pressing the shutter buttponsikma
