Is it a bit sketchy that a seemingly well put together organization is insisting on paying via PayPal? I have been freelancing here (nyc) for about 3 years and have never come across this.

IMO Email Interact is so much easier...

it might be they want to pay via credit card through paypal(unless you can personally accept credit card payments) - depending on their setup it can work as a benefit using the credit card. not as usual but pay is pay in my book. i could be wrong.

the fee is like 3%, I do it frequently and never have issues with it. great if your client isn't local.

what's wrong with paypal? That's the only method of payment i accept from client who i don't get to see face to face.

paypal seems like a pretty good way to get paid.
as acescence mentioned they might cry fraud if they are scamsters, but i'm sure if you had an email from them confirming the work you were doing and the amount you were charging then that would be proof enough for you to prove to paypal they were due you the payment.
maybe its just the method they use to pay for the freelance work they get done, its an easy and fast method so i wouldnt consider it suspicious they want to pay you that way.

I got paid by a client via paypal today. it worked fine. The client was well-known to me, and the first few checks cleared no problem, but I don't deal with sketchy clients, as they usually have sketchy specs and a certain smell of sketchiness you can tell if you've been freelancing for a while
