bunch of designer types get owned by crowdspring.com guy
- marychain0
yeah.....I'm not sure he owned anybody

David Carson was the only one who had any idea what they were saying in this forum. Everyone else was rambling, and stumbling over the same had arguments, and not addressing the key talking points (some of which are valid) that the Crowdspring guy brought to light.
- ...and it was nice of the editors to cut to the other guy every time he opened his mouth.MrOneHundred

jeffrey from skinnycorp is a whiny bellend, who the fuck would listen to that guy I don't know.

I think the crowdspring guy made a valid point-that design is going towards cheap crap.

some people don't want expensive fancy shit, big deal

most of the work looks shitty in the same way

Whats the big deal with crowdspring? Sites like this have been around forever. Is the difference that crowdspring features a lot of the work for others to see, where a lot of the other sites don't go past the pitch/match like getafreelancer for example?

Just look at the stats of the people in "popular designers" section:
http://www.crowdspring.com/myspr…
this guys submitted 168 projects and got 3. Based on the total of the projects he's participating in his average project bring in $800. So he made $2400 from this site. Lets say it took him 1 hour to submit to each project so $2400 divided by 168 = $14.So this champ is a proud earner of $14/hour.
- ...and before to long we all will be.MrOneHundred
- Hmmm... $14 an hour, you say.
*considers this better paying careerNotByHand - hahaha maybe you should email that to himOSFA
- no we wont.Iggyboo

I like this brief:
http://www.crowdspring.com/proje…"We're Serious Business and we make fun games."
Hmmm... but we can't afford an artist and have only $600 to spend at crowspring. If fact we are 2 guys in our parent's basement.

it all boils down to this:
•some clients only need the kind of cheap work those websites provide.
•others need more and are willing to pay agencies to do it.
i don't understand why people struggle so fucking hard (often to an abusive degree) to try and declare something either black or white.
it serves no purpose

but seriously, that jeff guy needs to learn some public speaking skills, and that lydia bitch needs to stop reading from her pre-written script and learn how to answer a question
- +1 - Jeff was rambling way too much.. couldn't get a clear sentence from himpoolio
- OSFA0
hahaha I guess we can all come to the conclusion that Lydia sucks ass and should NOT be representing AIGA. Oh! and that yes, Jeff needs to stop WRITING BLOGS and practice his speeches if he's going to be part of a forum or 'expert' panel.

there was only one designer up there and he's overrated

Ok the overall fundamental problem i see here is the corporations don't see the value of spending money on a designer. They just don't see it as a valuable service until they have that game changing moment. Spec is here to say however i would also like to say that the companies that are getting spec work will not be in business very long...
- Sure some big corps are going to do it just for fun but they will never put a $300 million marketing campaign up for spec.********
- spec shit********
- yes, because all companies with shite logos fail!
Akiraprise
- Sure some big corps are going to do it just for fun but they will never put a $300 million marketing campaign up for spec.
- bulletfactory0
Also - I don't do [unpaid] spec work, and wouldn't work with a client requesting it. My time is worth money, just like 'theirs'.
- 'My time is worth money' that what she said...OSFA

crowdspring page views don't really show much success lol
- Point50
this does not level "THE" Playing Field, it levels "A" Playing Field. Spec work simply devalues the worth of any designer, artist, etc. that takes part in it. If you are willing to gamble your hours and ideas with the hopes of hitting a corporate logo jackpot or whatever is a the end of the crowdsourcing rainbow then go ahead.

Hey! I just got a few scalpels and some horse tranqulisers. I think I’ll start up a website where people can come and get medical procedures done cheap. Surely it can’t be that hard, and anyway, how am I going to get experience if I can’t operate on people? So a few people might die, but at least it’ll level the playing field.
