oh yeah. i use this when i can. not my bike in the photo but the same model.
In nyc i commute on a cheap ass standard model road racer. Not using the knock off shimanos because they break down on me. But i do well on the top gear from bed stuy to downtown manhattan. Love pushing past commuters over bkln bridge on the big cogs.

Got myself one of these. Been tearing up the lanes in Essex and East London this summer. Italian built, but British design, steel frame, well twitchy and solid as a rock at speed. Have scared myself a few times though getting a bit over confident and meeting tractors/cars coming round corners. Be nice to do one of those races where they close the roads.

This thread is making me cry...
I was so heavy into road cycling when i was younger, like junior high, early high school age. All I thought about was riding and starting to race in the USCF. I did local organized rides in the north Texas area, anywhere from 25 mile distances to 100K. Cycling was probably the one thing I've ever been totally, 110% dedicated to. In 9th grade I rode 175 miles a week; 25-30 miles every single day after school.
Here in Chicago, I have a Specialized Rockhopper and love it. It's got a lock-out on the shock so it's great for street riding. I'd love to have a road bike, but there's just not the time now, and frankly with riding in the city, I just would not have that "open road" perk like I did living in the country suburbs in Texas.
Though, someone in this tread was talking about slick tires for mountain bikes, and I might look into getting a pair. We don't camp much but when we do I like to have our bikes, so I could just switch tires for something like that.

Apparently riding 2 abreast is safer

i fkin hate road cyclists. heres a few questions
not aimed at you directly just cyclists in general BTW
on busy narrow roads why do you ride 2+ abreast
I realise that going down hill you go fast which probably feels great but in a car your fast isnt so you end up holding up traffic can you at least keep to the side of the road so we can get past
when going up hill slowly you wobble around and take up most of the road can you please just stop and get out of the way and maybe push the bike uphill on the curb?
at traffic lights you zigzag in and out of traffic to push your way to the front then get pissy when we accelerate when the lights go green. why wont you take your fking turn and queue like the rest of us.
can you please keep to the side of the road and not get angry when we overtake you at speed cuz the gap left on the road has been narrowed by you!
- The amount of idiot and antisocial bike riders is proportional to idiot and antisocial car drivers...OBBTKN
- I am a since ever bike rider and a car driver, always respected the rules, zero problems; and i live in a area very congested by cyclistsOBBTKN
- Only a pair of problems with psychotic subhumans on their 2 tons weight carsOBBTKN
- ... but the same could have gone riding a bicycleOBBTKN
- But yes, I understand your anger with the bikers in city areas riding between pedestrians and risking their and other lives zigzaging between carsOBBTKN
- If you are sharing a road with bikes, and you know there are going to be bikes there... be aware, respect them, brake when neededOBBTKN
- and ask them to do the sameOBBTKN
- lets face it some people are just thoughtless wankers wherever they are, be it in a car, on a bike, walking down the pavement (sidewalk) etc etchans_glib

- I do a lot of cycling on trail networks. You guys on the road have a fuckin' death wish.section_014
- I've done a lot of city driving and city biking. I don't think either are much of an annoyance to each other. It's the pedestrians that are a constant annoyanceCyBrainX
- Pedestrians walk into a street without looking, try to listen to a car as if a bike never existed and when they're startled they bitch about crazy bikers.CyBrainX

I ride every day in Manhattan. My bike is a beater I got from Craig's List for $200 about 5 years ago. A photo is hardly necessary because I like that's it's not pretty. It's good to be under the radar if you lock your bike up on the sidewalk every night. I got puncture resistant tires because I was getting flats once a month. Now it's down to about once a year. You also have to get fenders if you ride in the rain. The MOST IMPORTANT acquisition is a locking system for your wheels and seat. It comes with a key that thieves know to not bother with. They can always steal your bike but if they can't get the wheels off, your bike isn't worth their effort.

- How much time did those car drivers back to peloton? Cmon... those guys are doing sport, having fun and not committing a crime...OBBTKN
- "how much time have lost..."OBBTKN
- the roads are not only for motorists, share it and respect each otherOBBTKN
- And world would be a bit better if there were less cars or trucks and more bikes. Bored of those moanful fat asses on their 2 ton wheelchairs, period.OBBTKN
- Anyone whoever rode a bike for 10 minutes knows how useful it is to stop for a stop sign with no one around in the suburbs.CyBrainX
- < These bikers are dicks though.CyBrainX
- whenever I bike with friends, up north, the guy in the back yells up and we all shift into single file. it's not that big a deal to do.Gnash
- if it's busy we just stay single file.Gnash
- one guy usually sits in one 20ft truck, taking up half as much space as this 30ppl group alone.mekk

Just rediscovered this thread :)
Today I bought a long-sleeved jacket from a brand with no pedigree (yes Van Rysel), and damn, it's very well insulated, has great fabric, tons of pockets and zippers... and it's three or four times cheaper than a Rapha, for example...
- The only decent jacket I had left for fall-winter was a Swiss champion replica from Cancellara, ummm 15 years old?OBBTKN
- BUT Rapha Gore-Text Winter jacket bud!!!
https://www.rapha.cc…ideaist - Oh my... 380$OBBTKN
- ^ It's scandalous, eh?
I need a winter running AND cycling jacket... SOOO $$$...ideaist

I'm in the middle of building up a Soma Rush special edition from like 2011. Got a good deal on the frame but now I'm being a prissy princess on nice parts and killing my wallet.
