- coco_ono0
better question is "How long can I endure this?"

Direct deposit.
- direct deposit would be an absolute dream! of course my boss can't figure out how to make that happen, so we just get checks dropped on our desks whenever he's in, which apparently is not today.bhamchi

So you have been waiting a whole day? Doesn't seem like much waiting to me. Still sucks though.

I'm still waiting for a weeks work of pay I did for a friend last month. He says he's broke and can't pay me until he gets payed for a few of his jobs. But then the f'er and his ol' lady are going out to dinner and drinks every single night.
How long do I put up with this B.S. before it starts to jeopardize our friendship?- they are probably dining on credit. spending the money he has coming in before he gets it.brains
- yep but im worried he'll have to pay off his debts instead of paying me...fooler2
- I should have known better, I sold him a 1 year old Arbor Snowboard with Bindings for a steal and it took him 6 months to pay me for that!fooler2
- well your name IS fooler. maybe he's onto a winner.meffid

Are you a full time employee in the US? Cause I'm pretty sure it's illegal for the company to pay you late if the payment terms are in your contract

The title made me smile.

that happened to me once... then a paycheque bounced. then they covered the next one while 'working on it' for the earlier cheque... I never did get my last paycheque. or severance, or accumulated vacation or other wages owing. Not saying this will happen to you, but getting out early moves you to the head of the line for payout.
- we've also had checks bounce here. we've also had checks clear and then suddenly disappear from people's banks. recently we had a request that one person in the office voluntarily not deposit their check for three days.bhamchi

What kind of company doesn't offer direct deposit? I don't think it costs your employer anything. Takes 5 minutes.
- i think not having direct deposit makes it easier for our boss to dick us around with money like he's doing now.bhamchi

- P.S.—Careful what you say here. You never know who's reading. Trust me on this one.Scotch_Roman

thankfully the gods have smiled upon me and our paychecks have arrived. i know one day late isn't a big deal, but it becomes a big deal when we've been getting checks up to five days late for the past three months. *shrug* there's also other sources of irritation here, so i think that's exacerbating my situation.

if you've had a paycheque bounce or get clawed back from an account, it's a sign to move on. Generally a company will stiff every one of its creditors before its employees (their life blood). If it has gotten to the point that the well is so dry they cannot pay employees (on time), they're bankrupt. This is especially true when you consider that pretty much every business has a line of credit to draw on in order to smooth out the receivables.
Give some thought to how much you have owing to you in total, and how you would manage without that money. Sometimes continuing a relationship is riskier than walking away. Personally I dallied and ended up stiffed for 3 paycheques + unused vacation. It was an expensive lesson.
It's a rough time to look for a job for sure, but the way things are going it could be harder in the summer. Think about it. even a survival job with steady pay is better than no pay.
- in the end you'll have to judge based on your perception of things. My story might not apply to your situationmonNom

yeah, I'm with scotch roman on this one.
I've already found your current work, address etc with 3 clicks.
Issues with your pay or your boss? Talk to him. You're a senior designer, you should really know better.
Plus I wouldn't hire you on the basis you've bitched online before speaking to me... for example.

I went through this.
Best bet is to evaluate the company strategically, and decide: "Does my company have long-standing success and trust with their clients? Is this just a sign of the times, or is this going to end in failure, with me out of a job, and no warning to start looking."
If you think the company has a good track record with their clients, and the clients are likely to pay, but are just having trouble making payment on time, then stick it through -- your company will notice your commitment and reward you for it when they can.
If your determination is the opposite, then start looking for a new place now. The last thing you want is to be left without a job, no leads incoming, and having to start the job hunt off on a bad foot.
It sounds like your situation has been worked out, but again, I've now learned to always lean towards the side of caution. And definitely be a little safer when posting, someone having a bad day could easily forward this thread to your boss.

sigh. i totally deserved this.
at any rate, i was just trying to diffuse some frustration with a little humorous venting, but you're absolutely right, it's something that i should have taken up with my boss. *shrug*

to be fair, they are not exactly showing you the highest level of respect by jerking you around on pay. I'd remove your website link and call it a wash.
