add gradient steps instead of expecting the blue to white to suffice
instead of
a...
do this
a-------b--------c----------d...

so if I have a blue swatch say, c88 m77 y0 k0 what do I do to make a smooth gradient down to c0 m0 y0 k0
or is it better to do a swatch to transparent instead of using page white? I'm doing this in Indesign cs4 by the way

you would probably get a better gradient effect with photoshop.

i don't use indesign but the logic behind my statement is as follows, it reduces banding and helps get the ink where it needs to be
instead of
a: c88 m77 y0 k0
b: c0 m0 y0 k0try:
a: c88 m77 y0 k0
b: c66 m58 y0 k0
c: c44 m39 y0 k0
d: c22 m20 y0 k0
e: c0 m0 y0 k0make sense?

aye i'll give that a goin both photoshop and indesign

version3 - you recon i should put them at 20% intervals then, a for the highest blue -------- e grading down to the white, will also try the noise tip, thanks Jimbojones
- i just did the math from your color down to white, it's as even as it can be, mix and match until you're happyversion3

I agree with everything in this thread.

duckofrubber likes to get shafted by a cardboard cutout of HulkHogan with a dildo sticking out of it.

duckofrubber loves the cock

to avoid banding you an also try to add some noise (not much) in ps, it will make the gradient smoother.

tried that version3 worked a treat thanks, recalibrating me Cinema HD display helped a good lot too with Pantone Huey Pro. Gradients looking a lot more smooth on screen now, just hope they print that way now!!
